Betting Line: Michigan -10
Over/Under: 52.5 points at 888 Sportsbook

Fifth-ranked Michigan plays host to 14th-ranked Penn State in a Big 10 game that has big bowl and BCS implications, especially for Michigan.

The Wolverines are a double-digit betting favorite at 888 Sportsbook and punters have a lot of choices in the NCAA betting markets that are available for this rivalry game.

Penn State has won two straight after losing two in a row and while in the top 15 in the nation, they are long-shots to make the conference title game.

Michigan is 5-0 in Big 10 play and Ohio State, who beat PSU earlier this season, is at 4-1. The Nittany Lions are pretty balanced and have a good defense, but they have given up 25 points per game in their last four outings.

Michigan is riding high, winners of seven in a row after dropping their first game of the season. They have a clear path to the title game as the winner of the East Division, but have to get by Penn State and still have to hit the road to face Ohio State in the last game of the season. With Ohio State being shocked, losing to Purdue a couple of weeks back, the Wolverines can have a loss before facing OSU, but that will hurt their BCS rankings.

Michigan has the top-ranked defense in the nation and in their last game facing in-state rival Michigan State they held them to under 100 total yards.

This season Penn State is 6-2 SU with an ATS record of 5-3` and an O/U record of 6-2 and Michigan is 7-1 with an ATS record of 5-3 and an O/U record of 4-4.

The favorite has covered the spread in the last four games between these teams and the home team has covered in five of the last six meetings.

Last season at home Penn State beat Michigan 42-13, but when they faced off last at Michigan the Wolverines laid a 49-10 beat-down on the Nittany Lions.

Penn State was at home in their last game and they beat a ranked Iowa team 30-24. They had 38 fewer yards in the game, but their defense came up big late and they had an interception at their own four-yard line with 3:18 left in the game and that was the icing on the cake.

Trace McSorley left the game in the first half, but returned and played well including galloping for a 51-yard touchdown. He led the team in rushing and passing yards with Miles Sanders, who leads the team in rushing on the season, chiming in for 62 yards while only averaging 3.8 yards per carry. Penn State beat an Iowa team last week that had a top five defense, but now they face the top defense in the nation facing Michigan. The Wolverines not only have the nation’s top-ranked overall defense, but they rank first in pass defense and eighth in run defense.

Michigan was dominant on the defensive side of the football in their last game beating Michigan State 21-7. They only gave up 94 yards in the game and they held the Spartans to only 15 rushing yards.

Shea Patterson passed for 212 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the win over Michigan State and on the season, he has 12 touchdowns and only three interceptions. However, the big gun for the Wolverines on offense is Karan Higdon. He rushed for 144 yards in the Michigan State game and has topped 100 yards on the ground in his last six games.

While the Penn State defense is a balanced one it is not great ranking 66th in the nation in pass defense and 68th in run defense. Obviously, their defense will be key in this game, as their offense may not put up many points against a great Michigan defense that is only giving up an average of 14.4 points per game.

Penn State vs. Michigan betting prediction

Michigan is coming off a bye week and has failed to cover the spread in its last six games following a bye. On top of that they are giving 10 points to a ranked Penn State squad.

Despite the stats, the Wolverines are still the pick in this game. Their defense will have another dominant game and while their offense will not light up the scoreboard they will play well.

Michigan will win and cover at home sending Penn State to their third loss of the season.
