LEGALISING sports betting has certainly not harmed Pennsylvania’s casino slot machine and table game revenues, which set a record high for the state during the 2018 calendar year.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board released figures yesterday, touting a strong year for the casino industry. The total revenue of $3,248,681,377 in 2018 topped the previous year total of $3,226,910,816 in 2017.

The results go directly against well-worn out arguments against sports betting, in that it would hurt the traditional gambling models.

The record figure came in spite of a 1.3% dip in table game revenue and it was the growing popularity of poker machines, or slot machines, which raised $2,369,885,203 of the total figure.

The tables provided below spell out the recent modern history of Pennsylvania’s gambling revenue history:

The state’s first slots casino opened in 2006 and table games were made legal and included in 2010.

Pennsylvania was among the first handful of US States to legalise sports betting after the Supreme Court deemed PASPA invalid in 2018.
