We are in the twilight of the Premier League season and it’s really coming down to it. Liverpool and Man City have a vast lead on third-placed Chelsea and they are duking it out for the crown. Similarly, EPL fans will also be treated to a fun top four race as well as a sneakily interesting relegation battle. Most teams only have 3-5 games remaining and each game just means more at this stage in the season. There are nine games on tap for this weekend and we have picks for three of them.
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Brighton & Hove Albion
This is a very evenly matched teams between two mediocre EPL teams. Brighton is in 11th with 41 points through 34 matches. Wolves are in eighth place with 49 points through 33 matches. At the beginning of the season, Wolves were flying high but they have faltered since their star attacker Adama Traore left for Barcelona. Now, they are firmly a mid table team but can still make a run for a Europa League qualifying spot. On the other hand, Brighton have nothing to play for and may struggle to find the motivation away from home.
This line gives a lot of credit to Brighton for no reason. They are good, but will be away from home against a better team. Sure, Wolves aren’t super impressive and haven’t been on fire recently but they have been a stronger squad over the course of the season. Don’t overthink this game, take the Wolves at a great value.
Wolverhampton Wanderers to win
Aston Villa vs Norwich City
Death, taxes and Norwich City overs. Norwich has given up the most goals in the league and are destined for relegation. They are in last place and while Villa isn’t too much better, they are capable of hitting this over by themselves. Villa has a bevy of attacking talent who will be able to break through Norwich City’s defense with ease. Also, Villa’s defense is pretty brutal so they may be susceptible to Norwich City’s attack. That’s not saying Norwich has a good attack but if they are able to bag a goal or two, this over will hit easily. We only need three goals for this over to cash and with Norwich’s defense, that could hit in the first half. Take the over and watch two defensively inept teams go toe to toe for 90 minutes.
Over 2.5 total goals
Everton vs Chelsea
As good as Chelsea is, this is more of a fade against Everton. Everton, a Premier League mainstay, is having a season from hell and may get relegated. They are in 18th, a relegation spot, with only 29 points through 32 matches. One would think that could be motivating but in Everton’s last game, they only had 13% of the possession and broke a Premier League record. They were hapless. Everton is playing horribly and while they are at home, Chelsea outclasses them at each position. Everton is probably good enough to climb out of relegation, but it won’t happen in this fixture and the hot seat may get even hotter after these 90 minutes are over.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have been pretty good recently. They have four wins in their last five, and are relatively firmly in third place. They have 66 points through 33 matches and are a lock for Champions League soccer next year. Chelsea, all season, have been strong away from home and it shouldn’t affect them too much in this match up. Chelsea are way better than Everton up and down the team sheets and they should win this game comfortably. Take Chelsea -130 with the top betting sites and watch them dominate Everton in Everton’s home park.
