Twin River Casino executive, Patti Doyle, says the company will begin taking sports wagers latest by December.
This will mean Rhode Island punters will be able to bet on their beloved New England Patriots in the NFL well before the end of the season
Punters who have been waiting to place sporting bets legally in the state will be able to do so at Twin River in Lincoln by Thanksgiving, thanks to the Supreme Court’s repeal of the 1992 federal ban on sports betting in May.
Rhode Island was one of many states that acted quickly following the SCOTUS decision, legalising the practice. With high revenue expectations, the state governor, Gina Raimondo, added $23 million to state’s budget — money to be generated from a 51% tax on all sports betting revenue.
Rhode Island scheduled October 1 to roll out sports betting, but a delay in approving regulations has pushed it back.
Patti Doyle said of the new scheduled date “We don’t have a date certain, but we are working on it.”
“Within a week’s time, we will also lock in on Tiverton. It is on the horizon.”
Casino operators in Tiverton will erect walls as sports betting rooms filled with screens displaying several games and races with a window for placing bets.
However, in Lincoln, there will be two designated rooms, one for a sports lounge with 100 screens and the other room for big games.
This venue according to Doyle, will be what is now the horse race simulcast room.
