Serie A: Milan down Inter 2-1 to end derby losing streak

AC Milan registered a shock 2-1 win over defending champions Internazionale on Sunday night in the Serie A at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.

The visitors took the lead in the 10th minute through former Chelsea midfielder Christian Pulisic, before Milan levelled matters 17 minutes later through Italian wingback Federico Dimarco.

A series of attacks by the Rossoneri eventually paid off when Matteo Gabbia scored a powerful header from a set-piece late in the second half.

The result elevated Milan to seventh on the Series A table, level on eight points with Inter.

Sunday’s victory marked a change of fortune for the Rossoneri, who had suffered defeat in their last six Milan derbies in all competitions.

Inter manager Simone Inzaghi was disappointed with his team’s performance.

“We needed to be more focused; we weren’t the usual Inter,” he said.

“The goals we conceded are proof of that. We should have done more, starting with myself as the coach.

“We’re disappointed because we know how important the derby is for the fans and the club.

“What we need to do now is analyse the game and work hard because we didn’t perform as a team the way we have been for the past three years.”

Milan will be hoping to secure a second consecutive win this Friday, with online bookmakers paying -270.27 for the Rossoneri to defeat Lecce (+659) at home in the Serie A.

Meanwhile, Inter will be looking to return to winning ways against Udinese this Saturday, with soccer betting sites paying -185.19 for the reigning champions to defeat Udinese (+508) at the Bluenergy Stadium.
