Test cricket does not get much better than the first match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, which was won of the fifth day by the home side.
Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne combined for 161 runs – the equal-highest opening partnership in Tests between the two countries – as the Lankans ran down a target of 268 in a record fourth-innings chase at Galle.

That result moved Sri Lanka to the top of the ICC World Test Championship table ahead of the second and final Test of the series at Colombo’s P Sara Oval, which kicks off Thursday, August 22.
Kane Williamson will want to lift his efforts after making a total of four runs in the opener, including a three-ball duck in the first innings.
The Black Caps skipper will also demand more from his fellow top-order bats, as he was not the only one to fall flat in the second dig.

Lahiru Thirimanne @ +450 with Nags.bet
If not for his captain’s superb 122-run effort in Galle, Thirimanne would have had the top score in the second innings. When Sri Lanka need to make a large total, they will back in Thirimanne to get the job done. He has proven himself against quality opposition and will be difficult to dismiss.
Tom Latham @ +400 with Nags.bet
Without setting the world on fire, Latham has been able to score consistent runs for his nation. He is a reliable opener with an excellent Test average of 42.57, which puts him in the upper echelon of international batsmen. Latham made two good starts in the first Test but will want to deliver more in Colombo.
Lasith Embuldeniya @ +350 with Nags.bet
Although he was not the most dangerous bowler in the first match, Embuldeniya was given plenty of opportunities and bowled a massive 59 overs across the two innings. The slow left-arm orthodox style is tough to play if the bowler can hit the right areas, which is how Embuldeniya took four wickets in the second innings.
Trent Boult @ +260 with Nags.bet
Someone needs to stand up in the New Zealand bowling attack. Boult is one good nut away from taking 250 Test wickets, a feat that only two other NZ bowlers – Sir Richard Hadlee and Daniel Vettori – have managed. Boult will use his pace and guile to trouble the Sri Lankans with the new ball.
Sri Lanka to win @ +170 with Nags.bet
After seeing the Sri Lankans play so well in the first Test, it would be a poor choice to go against them in this match. The hosts have more potential with the bat and could easily strike early with the ball.
