Edson Barboza (22-11) has been attempting to reclaim his status as a contender recently, but he has sadly dropped seven of his previous 10 matches. Don’t be fooled by that, though; he still ranks among the most hazardous competitors in the UFC featherweight category.

Although Billy Quarantillo (17-4) has recently had a mixed bag of performances, he has some major momentum going into this battle. He defeated Alexander Hernandez in December, winning the Performance of the Night prize.

It is difficult to ignore Barboza’s seven losses in his last 10 fights given that both heavyweights are trying to prove a statement. Unfortunately, we could see the 37-year-old retiring after this bout, despite his desire to remain in the ranks.

As Quarantillo enters the top 15, take him for the sure thing of KO or decision.

Since re-joining the UFC after a long stint in professional kickboxing Dustin Jacoby fight game has changed rapidly. Jacoby is one of the stronger kickboxers who can keep his strong tempo for the full 15 minutes.

Although Azamat Murzakanov fight record shows him to be a promising candidate. His UFC debut raised some questions against Tafon Nchukwi until a flying knee in round three gave him the win.

The height, reach, and experience disadvantages for Murzakanov are severe. Jacoby has encountered several strong opponents, yet he still seems to stay on his feet, and maintains composure under pressure.

Murzakanov will be set for a strong start however as the fight progresses, Jacoby’s more reliable distance game of punches and kicks ought to start dictating the range and putting him in control.

The experience will make the difference in a tight battle that might end in a KO at any time. Pick Jacoby to win by KO or Decision.

Ion Cutelaba

Light Heavyweight Bout
+110 at Bovada UFC Betting Odds -133.33 at Bovada
20-9-1 MMA Records 16-9-1

Since moving up to light heavyweight in the UFC, Ion Cutelaba hasn’t exactly been thrilling. Although he may have exceptional talent across the board in MMA, his biggest weaknesses are his total lack of defence and his inability to keep up a pace.

When competing against bigger, sloppier opponents, Tanner Boser, a tiny Heavyweight, used his speed and conditioning to his advantage. That works far better against Raphael Pessoa than it does Ciryl Gane, thus Boser has chosen to try his hand at light heavyweight after hitting a wall in his past four fights. For the occasion, he appears to be in excellent form, which is a really encouraging indication.

With Tanner’s boxing talents and Ion’s grappling abilities, this bout may go anyway. With betting odds of -303.03 with the top betting sites, the safest bet would be to predict that this fight won’t last 15 minutes. However, if it does, bet on endurance and select Tanner Boser to prevail at odds of +110 over Ion Cutelaba.

Pedro Munhoz vs Chris Gutierrez

Chris Gutierrez (19-3-2)

#13 Chris Gutierrez

Bantamweight Bout
-222.22 at Bovada UFC Betting Odds +180 at Bovada
19-7-0 MMA Records 19-3-2

Pedro Munhoz has sparred with most of the top bantamweights over the past ten years. He still possesses one of the greatest chins in the industry, a tremendously wicked calf kick, and a guillotine choke that can end a fight instantly. His greatest weakness throughout history has been his slowness.

One may argue that Chris Gutierrez is the best low kicking in MMA. In contrast to most powerful calf kickers, he can quickly swap stances and kick just as strongly from the outer side. He is so darn adept at dissecting his opponent’s lead leg. He usually weakens the lead leg of his opponent, then when they swap stances to protect their injured leg, he brutalises the opposite calf!

Munhoz is the more well-rounded boxer with greater opportunities for success and superior experience. There will be a noticeable speed edge for Gutierrez.

Prior to the eye poke, Munhoz had a strong performance against O’Malley, but it’s still difficult to overlook the fact that, regardless of the level of competition, he has been losing much more frequently than winning lately.

Consider Gutierrez’s capacity to win by points by simply patiently wearing out his opponent.

Clay Guida at age 41 still refuses to slow down inside the cage. He is still able to hold up a 15 minute performance with out his offence dropping. Guida continues to offer his opponents with many threats at a rapid speed, including takedowns, overhands, and calf kicks, making him a challenging opponent even at this stage of his career.

Rafa Garcia is a simple boxer/wrestler. He can execute passable combinations, maintain a steady tempo, and timing his kicks effectively. Although I don’t think anything about his game stands out particularly, it is nonetheless a formula for success.

Garcia has yet to take the win inside the Octagon against a foe that he couldn’t outwrestle. While Guida has won over opponents who are more skilled Lightweights than any of Garcia’s victories.

The two are likely to engage in a full-on wrestling contest. Early on, it’ll probably be quite close, but Guida’s pace and expertise should give him the victory in the end.
