UFC: Jon Jones likely to fight in 2025
Jon Jones is confident that he will fight again in 2025, with the UFC heavyweight champion sharing that he is in negotiations regarding future bouts.
“So right now, the UFC and I, we’re in negotiations,” Jones said in a recent interview.
“We’re in talks to see what happens next.
“I will be competing in 2025, more than likely.”
The news comes after the 37-year-old teased retirement on several occasions this year.
However, after living up to his -714.29 odds at UFC bookmakers and defeating Stipe Miocic by third-round TKO earlier this month, the American says he is feeling rejuvenated.
“I’m back in the gym, I’m training, I feel really great,” he said.
“It’s been awesome.
“Something feels different about this win.
“I feel like the whole world’s really excited about it.
“The UFC has elevated it to an even higher place, and I feel at the right place at the right time.
“I’m grateful for it all.”
Jones has previously expressed an interest in fighting light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, despite pressure from fans to defend his title against heavyweight challenger Tom Aspinall.
Regardless of who he steps into the octagon with next year, Jones shared that the current sticking point with the UFC is financial.
“There is a dollar amount in mind, but I’m not going to discuss that publicly,” he said.
“We’ll just have to wait and see.
“The team’s support, they’re right behind me, and we’ll just be ready for whatever opportunity comes our way.”
Jones has received support from a surprising voice as he negotiates his next fight, with former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou weighing in on the matter.
“I think this is about a negotiation situation here that we don’t know the ups and downs,” Ngannou said.
“He’s in the position to claim what he wants.
“As he has said, Aspinall needs that fight, Jones doesn’t need it.
“When you look at it, it’s pretty much true.
“There’s nothing that he’s going to make in that fight other than money but for Aspinall, that will be everything.”
