UK Gambling Commission deals out £14 million in online casino fines

FINES totalling £14 million have been handed out to three online casinos in the United Kingdom for failure to detect fraudulent customers.

Daub Alderney (£7.1m), Casumo (£5.85m) and Videoslots (£1m) were all hit hard by the United Kingdom Gambling Commission, which also forced CZ Holdings into surrendering its UK license following a comprehensive review.

Chief Executive Officer of the Gambling Commission, Neil McArthur said the fines sent a message to the entire industry to clean up its game.

“I hope today’s announcement will make all online casino operators sit up and pay attention, as our investigations found that a large number of operators and their senior management were not meeting their obligations,” McArthur said.

“We expect operators to know their customers and to ask the right questions to make sure they meet their anti-money laundering and social responsibility obligations.”

Videoslots was found to have failed to uphold its responsibility with customer checks and monitoring its client’s activities. After the review, Videoslots accepted it had to work on flaws in its system.

“We confirm that Videoslots has entered a regulatory settlement with the Gambling Commission to conclude a review of our operating licence. Their investigations were part of a thematic review by the regulator into AML and responsible gambling compliance in the remote gambling industry,” a company statement read.

“We are pleased that the Gambling Commission recognises that we were open and transparent from the outset of their investigation and fully cooperative throughout.”
