New sports betting sites in New Jersey

New Jersey was the first state in the USA to fully legalise sports betting sites, with these new operators now taking the lions share of wagering. The best new betting sites in NJ include some of the biggest wagering brands in world wagering, such as BetMGM and FoxBet, with pretty much all recently launched sportsbooks, given how young the industry is. The top new NJ betting sites for 2024 are:

What is the story with new legal betting sites in New Jersey

With PASPA gone and the nationwide ban on sports betting lifted, the New Jersey online betting industry is about to explode. Real money casino sites are already up and running in the Garden State, and it won’t be long now until local gamblers can bet on sport and racing with licensed online bookmakers.

The question is: which established betting companies will set up shop in NJ? A few of the big boys already have plans in motion, but there is also scope for the state’s existing gaming operators to launch dedicated online and mobile wagering services. New and lesser-known firms may seek out licences as well.

Sports betting at New Jersey casinos

Now that sports betting is no longer illegal according to federal law, Atlantic City casinos can follow in the footsteps of their Nevada rivals and open up legitimate bookmaking businesses. Several of the region’s gambling houses already operate online casinos and poker rooms, which were made legal in 2013.

  • Gambling in New JerseyBorgata – Owned and operated by MGM, the Borgata runs online poker and real money casino games in conjunction with both Party Poker and San Diego’s Pala Casino. The race and sports books at the Bellagio and the MGM Grand are widely regarded as the best in Las Vegas, so big things are expected of their east-coast cousin.
  • Caesars – Between the Caesars, Harrah’s and Bally’s franchises, Caesars Entertainment operates three land-based casinos, two online casinos and two real money poker sites in New Jersey alone. The company has a strong relationship with 888 Holdings – a major player in Europe’s ever-growing sports betting industry.
  • Golden Nugget – Formerly Trump’s Castle, the Golden Nugget already has significant ties to one of the world’s foremost online wagering brands. Betfair has provided the company’s NJ-facing online casino products since 2013, so it would be no surprise if they paired up again for an online sports betting venture.
  • Resorts – Others have come and gone over the past four decades, but the oldest legitimate gambling house in Atlantic City is still going strong. Resorts Casino Hotel entered the online gaming business in 2015 and now dominates the New Jersey poker scene through a lucrative partnership with PokerStars.
  • Tropicana – With help from then-governor Chris Christie and Sir Richard Branson, the Tropicana played a massive role in the legalization of internet gambling in New Jersey. The casino’s interactive gaming services are delivered by Virgin, which may well be first in line for the rights to the Tropicana online sportsbook.

NJ betting sites by international bookmakers

The creation of a regulated sports betting scene in New Jersey will draw major gambling companies from all over the globe. Some of these already have a foothold with online gaming platforms at the aforementioned Atlantic City casinos, while more still may move to set up shop on their own.

  • 888 Holdings – Few, if any, global betting brands are better positioned to succeed in the New Jersey sports betting industry. It would be a surprise if the new online sportsbook at Caesars was run by anyone but 888, which already provides the company’s real money poker and casino games.
  • GVC Holdings – As the muscle behind Borgata’s Party Poker operations, GVC is perfectly poised to open up betting shops and online bookies in New Jersey. Among the UK-based company’s best-known brands are Ladbrokes, Sportingbet and bwin.
  • William Hill – These guys are no strangers to the US gambling market. Hills already runs over 100 betting shops and a mobile wagering service in Nevada, so it would be no surprise if the British bookmaker expanded its operations to the eastern seaboard.
  • Paddy Power Betfair – Along with 888 and William Hill, Paddy Power’s share price skyrocketed after the US Supreme Court’s landmark PASPA ruling in May 2018. The Irish bookie has irons in fires all over the world, including Betfair’s online casino venture with the Golden Nugget and Fan Duel’s fantasy sports business.

More New Jersey online sportsbooks

Online betting at New Jersey racetracks

Until 2018, wagering on horse racing and greyhounds in New Jersey was limited to racetrack bookmakers and other designated gambling outlets. Now the way is clear for the state’s racecourses to offer online betting markets for local, interstate and international racing. Venues such as Meadowlands and Monmouth Park may also have the opportunity to operate sports betting, virtual racing and online casino services.

Offshore bookmakers that accept US gamblers

For a long time, until the New Jersey sports betting industry got up and running, the best way to wager on sport and racing in the United States was to sign up at one of our trusted overseas bookmakers. However these betting sites are now banned in New Jersey, which is a major blow to punters on things like esports, which are not often found at regulated betting sites.

Hopefully regulated NJ betting sites soon launch esports betting, although this will take some changes to the laws in the state, given they specifically talk about it being banned. There have been several exceptions and when these laws relax further it would not surprise to see more esports specifics sportsbook operators launch. And we always say any new NJ betting sites are a welcome addition — after-all the more competitive the space is the better for consumers.
