Watford vs Spurs EPL betting preview

Watford will be looking to maintain their rich vein of form when they face Tottenham Hotspur at Vicarage Road this Saturday in Matchweek 23 of the English Premier League.

Nigel Pearson has steadied the ship for the Hornets since taking over the managerial role from Quique Sanchez Flores in December, leading the team out of the relegation zone with a string of impressive results.

A month ago, Watford had only one win for the season and were barrelling towards the drop. Pearson, who famously staved off relegation with Leicester City during the 2014/15 EPL campaign, welcomed the challenge with open arms.

The Hornets have won four of their last five league games, with their most recent victory being last weekend’s 3-0 drubbing of Bournemouth at Dean Court. Watford now sit 17th on the EPL table with 22 points, a point above the drop zone.

Whereas Pearson’s mob have experienced a change of fortune, nothing seems to be going right for Tottenham Hotspur at the moment. Spurs are on a gradual decline, one which manager Jose Mourinho must arrest if he is to prevent his Champions League qualification race from collapsing.

Tottenham’s 1-0 home defeat against Liverpool last Saturday means they have won just one of their last five games in the Premier League. Those results have seen the London club drop to eighth on the table with 30 points – nine points away from Chelsea in fourth and a staggering 31 points behind leaders Liverpool.

Having failed to find the back of the net in three of their last five league games, Tottenham will have their work cut out when the go up against a revived Watford side.

Watford team news

Nigel Pearson has a number of players sidelined with injury ahead of this weekend’s encounter.

Former Manchester United stars Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck are out with foot and hamstring issues respectively, while Will Hughes, Sebastian Prodl and Kiko Femenia are also battling various injuries.

Christian Kabasele will, however, be in contention after serving his three-match ban for a red card received during Watford’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Tottenham Hotspur team news

Skipper Hugo Lloris is still sidelined on a long-term basis with an elbow injury and vice-captain Harry Kane is out until April due to a severe hamstring issue.

Tanguy Ndombele is out with a hip problem and Moussa Sissoko looks set to miss at least three months after undergoing knee surgery.

Ben Davies has a bad ankle and Danny Rose is now a major doubt with a muscular injury, leaving Spurs light at left-back.

Troy Deeney goalscorer odds and specials

• Deeney to score anytime – +130 at Bovada
• Deeney to score/Watford to win – +333 at Bovada

Watford captain Troy Deeney has been flying since returning from a knee injury that hampered the first half of his season.

The 31-year-old forward is currently the club’s joint-leading scorer with four goals, all of which have come in the last five league games.

That kind of form is hard to ignore, so put your money on Deeney to keep the good times rolling this weekend.

Watford vs Tottenham Hotspur EPL betting tips

Watford are nine places and eight points below Tottenham in the EPL standings, but current form tells a very different story.

Jose Mourinho has lost two of his best midfielders this season to injury and is set to head into the match without a recognised centre-forward.

On top of drawing with relegation-bound Norwich City, Spurs have recently lost against Liverpool, Southampton and Chelsea, with their only win coming against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Whereas Spurs have failed to score in three of those matches, Watford have found the back of the net 11 times in a five-game stretch that includes a 2-0 win over Manchester United.

Reeking with confidence and playing on their home turf, the Hornets could very well squeeze out a marginal win against Spurs.

Prediction: Watford to win – +210 at Bovada
