Wednesday’s MLB American League best bets & parlays – June 29

MLB best bets

Major League Baseball (MLB) has 15 games scheduled for Wednesday, headlined by Justin Verlander taking on Taijuan Walker and the Mets in New York, Michael Kopech and the White Sox visiting Shohei Ohtani and the Angels, and Toronto’s Alek Manoah hosting the Red Sox. Here are the best bets on games featuring American League teams scheduled for Wednesday, June 29 starting at 12:10pm Eastern. All lines provided by Bovada.

Houston Astros (-130) @ New York Mets (+110)

Justin Verlander has been his old self at age 39, going 9-3 with a 2.22 ERA and 0.87 WHIP over 89.1 innings pitched. Given this interleague matchup, the Mets are unfamiliar with Verlander. He last faced them in 2015.

Houston hitters are familiar with Mets’ projected starter, Taijuan Walker, thanks to his days in Seattle. The Astros are 22-for-64 with six doubles and two dingers against Walker, who is 6-2 with a 3.03 ERA and 1.21 WHIP this season. Houston’s top performers against Walker are Jose Altuve, who’s 11-for-29 with three doubles and a homer, and Yuli Gurriel, who’s three-of-five with a double and a dinger. Take either to have multiple total bases on Wednesday.

Also take the Astros in the first five innings and on the moneyline. Parlay those bets with…

Chicago White Sox (+115) @ Los Angeles Angels (-135)

Michael Kopech has been better than his 2-4 record. The White Sox just struggled to hit for the first six weeks of the season, as indicated by his 2.59 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. Kopech has been pretty effective against the Angels in a limited sample size. He’s allowed just one hit (a homer) in 13 at-bats, striking out six.

Shoehei Ohtani has been as effective against the White Sox. Last season he allowed just two hits in 17 at-bats, with none of them going for extra bases. Ohtani’s also been as hot as the sun with the lumber. In his last seven games he’s eight hits with three of them being homers over 21 at-bats.

Los Angeles has the better offense (15th team OPS to Chicago’s 24th) and better bullpen (ninth-ranked WHIP amongst relievers to Chicago’s 25th-ranked WHIP). Take the Angels in the first five innings and on the moneyline. Parlaying Los Angeles with Houston on the moneyline pays +207.

Boston Red Sox (+130) @ Toronto Blue Jays (-150)

Alek Manoah has been nothing short of an ace for Toronto, going 9-2 with a 2.05 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. This season he’s allowed just a .327 OPS to Boston batters. That’s three hits in 24 at-bats, with just one going for extra bases.

Nick Pivetta has been effective for Boston, going 8-5 with a 3.25 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. Toronto has torched him for seven total runs over two starts, neither of which saw Pivetta complete five innings. In 34 at-bats, Blue Jays batters have 10 hits but just one homer off Pivetta this season, good for an .801 OPS. The hits have been spread around to say the least.

Take Toronto in the first five innings and on the moneyline. Parlaying the Blue Jays, Angels, and Astros in a moneyline trifecta pays +413.
