NCAA Championship odds & team analysis

Duke – +175

Duke is the second-ranked team in the nation and it’s no shock that with their loaded team, they sit atop the betting. They are led by a couple of star freshman in R.J. Barrett and Zion Williamson, who are projected as the two best players entering the coming NBA draft. Duke is solid on both ends of the floor, but will a team led by two freshman come the business end?

Gonzaga – +675

The Zags beat Duke this season and they are the highest scoring team in the nation. They are the third-ranked team in the nation and while riding a long winning streak they do not play in a major conference in the WCC. They are led by star Rui Hachimura and the team can light it up, but their two losses of the season came against ranked teams from major conference in Tennessee and North Carolina and they will have to face those types of teams to win it all.

Tennessee – +815

In mid-February Tennessee is the top-ranked team in the nation and they are led by two future NBA, likely, lottery picks in Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield. The Volunteers only loss of the season came facing Kansas and they rank seventh in the nation in ppg. On top of that they have a solid defense, but can the Vols get it done come pressure time in March Madness where they were upset last season in the second round.

Virginia – +840

Virginia is the fourth ranked team in the nation and they have the best defense only giving up an average of 54.4 ppg. Their only two losses so far have come facing Duke and they won their other six games facing ranked teams. The Cavaliers look to get back to the Big Dance and forget about last season there when they made history becoming the first ever #1 seed to lose their opening round game.

Kentucky – +1100

Can you every really count out Kentucky? They are legit on both sides of the floor and have a balanced and athletic team led by P.J. Washington, but two of their four losses have come facing unranked teams. They also still have to face Tennessee twice, and those games my show if the Wildcats are a title contender.

Michigan State – +1200

Michigan State is a good team that is balanced and led by Cassius Winston, who is averaging nearly 19 ppg. However, they only have faced one top 10 team in Kansas and they lost that game and their other three losses came facing unranked teams.

Michigan – +12500

Michigan has been ranked in the top 10 for most of the season and was ranked #1 for some time, but they have not played a killer schedule and they recently lost to a Penn State team that is in the basement of the Big 10. Ignas Brazdeikis and Charles Matthews led the team averaging 14.6 ppg and 13.2 ppg, but the team does not have star power and it remains to be seen how they can fare facing top-tier talent.

North Carolina – +1700

UNC is a top 10 team led by star freshman Coby White (16 ppg) and they have beaten Kentucky and Gonzaga this season. The Tar Heels have flown under the radar this season, but they are UNC and come tourney time they will be ready. Their two remaining games facing Duke will be key, as they head to March Madness.

Kansas – +2150

Kansas has some big wins this season and Dedric Lawson is averaging a double-double, but the Jayhawks lack star power and it looks as if they will not win the Big 12 title for the first time in over a decade. Still, KU is great at the team game this season and that will serve them well come the Big Dance.

Villanova – +3500

Villanova does not have great odds at +3500, but they are ranked 13th in the nation. Not only are they the defending champions, but they have won two of the last three national titles. Phil Booth and Eric Paschall are each averaging over 17 ppg and they have to carry the load if the Wildcats are to become the first team since Florida in 2006 and 2007 to repeat as NCAA hoops champions.
