2019 Cricket World Cup betting preview – Pakistan vs South Africa

Pakistan +110 at William Hill Place Bet
South Africa -138.89 at William Hill Place Bet

Sunday’s clash at Lord’s is a difficult one for Cricket World Cup betting sites to handicap.

On the one hand you have Pakistan, who were obliterated in their opening game and have managed only a single win since.

Then you have South Africa, who are notorious chokers at major tournaments and have lived up to that tag with one win in six fixtures.

Pakistan’s form is so poor that Sarfaraz Ahmed, the team captain, has been dealing with phone calls from angry administrators in the wake of last weekend’s defeat to India.

South Africa had their chances against New Zealand last time out, but a litany of schoolboy errors in the field underlined just how bad things are going for the Proteas.

The question is: which one of these basket cases will commit the fewest blunders this weekend?

Pakistan vs South Africa top runscorer betting

Babar Azam – +300 at Bovada

God only knows where Pakistan would be without Babar. The young no.3 is not without blame for his side’s woes, having thrown away several good starts, but his quality at the crease is obvious – especially in ODI cricket.

Hashim Amla – +350 at Bovada

After some scratchy displays in the opening week, Amla is now starting to look like the world-class player we know he is. An unbeaten 41 against Afghanistan and 55 against New Zealand suggest a big knock is not far away.

Pakistan vs South Africa top wicket-taker odds

Mohammad Amir – +250 at Bovada

Mitchell Starc might have gone top of the wicket charts after Australia’s win over Bangladesh, but Amir has been the best bowler at CWC 2019 without exception. The left-arm quick is striking at 16.6 and making his teammates look very ordinary by comparison.

Chris Morris – +400 at Bovada

Morris has made an absolute mockery of the decision to leave him out of South Africa’s opening clash against England. With nine wickets from the four games in which he has bowled, the veteran allrounder is the form man in a talented Proteas pace attack.

Pakistan vs South Africa CWC 2019 betting predictions

South Africa to win – -138.89 at Bovada

This might be the single most difficult game to pick of CWC 2019 thus far. Neither of these teams can make the semi-finals from here, so it comes down to which side wants to salvage some pride from an otherwise disastrous tournament. South Africa have too many good players to keep playing the way they have done.
