ICC takes action against corruption in Cricket: Eight charged

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently announced that charges have been brought against eight players, officials, and team owners for violating corruption regulations during the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League.The charges are a result of an investigation into attempts to manipulate match outcomes during the tournament.

However, thanks to the efforts of the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), these attempts were thwarted.One of those accused is Nasir Hossain, an all-rounder from Bangladesh.

He is facing allegations such as not disclosing a gift valued at over $750, withholding information about a corruption approach, and failing to cooperate with the ACU’s investigation. Saliya Saman from Sri Lanka is also implicated in this case.

The charges against him include attempting to fix matches, offering rewards to influence outcomes, and facilitating matches.

Additionally, Rizwan Javed, a player from Pakistan, along with coaching staff and team co-owners from the Pune Devils franchise, have also been charged. Krishan Kumar Chaudhary and Parag Sanghvi, who are co-owners of the Pune Devils franchise, have been accused of sharing information related to their activities and obstructing investigations.

There are also allegations that Sanghvi placed wagers with betting sites on cricket matches. As a consequence of these charges, six individuals have been provisionally suspended while they have a 14-day period to respond.

The situation for Nasir Hossain and team manager Shadab Ahamed remains uncertain at this time.The investigation by the ICC regarding corruption in the T10 league is still in progress.

There might be steps taken in the coming days. The ICC’s firm position against corruption in cricket effectively communicates that such misconduct will not be accepted within the sport.
