The spinners did the damage as DC vaulted to the summit of the IPL table with Thursday’s victory.
Cricket betting sites have the Delhi Capitals as favorites to win the 2025 IPL title after they defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.
Heading into the match, RCB topped the outright betting markets and were favored at Nags.bet to beat DC for their fourth win of the season.
However, the spin attack from Vipraj Nigam (2/18) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/17) held the hosts to 163/7 from their 20 overs, which proved easy for Delhi to chase down as wicketkeeper KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 93 from 53 balls.
Bengaluru got off to a blazing start through openers Phil Salt (37 off 17) and Virat Kohli (22 off 14), scoring nearly two runs per ball — including 30 in a single over — across the first three and a half overs.
But the momentum stalled abruptly when Salt was run out in the fourth over, with the run rate slowing and wickets starting to fall.
Rajat Patidar (25 off 23) tried to steady the middle order but struggled against Delhi’s spinners. It wasn’t until Tim David (37 off 20) came in late in the innings that RCB regained any momentum.
DC stumbled early in their chase of RCB’s total, losing Faf du Plessis (2 off 7), Jake Fraser-McGurk (7 off 6), and Abishek Porel (7 off 7) within the first five overs.
Rahul stopped the bleeding, taking on RCB’s bowlers and finding support from Axar Patel (15 off 11) and later Tristan Stubbs (38* off 23), putting on an unbeaten 111-run partnership with Stubbs to clinch the win with 13 balls to spare.
The victory moves DC to the top of the IPL 2025 standings with four wins from four matches and shortens their odds to $4.50 to win the tournament.
“Everyone is playing with confidence,” captain Patel said afterward.
“When we won three in a row, I thought four out of four could be possible too.
“We talk about matchups and what’s happening on the pitch.
“I felt they prefer facing pace, so we tried to hold that back.
“Then the ball started spinning and bouncing, so I decided to bowl spin during the powerplay.”
