Scientific Games signals support for Lottery in sport expansion

Scientific Games has declared its intentions to roll out the Delaware Lottery expansion into full-scale sports betting.

This follows the scrapping of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) of 1992 by the US Supreme Court on May 14, 2018.

Soon after the Supreme Court ruling, Delaware implemented full-scale sports betting, making it the first US state to do that. It formerly offered sports betting on professional football, but has currently opened the net to capture other sporting activities.

As such, Scientific Games, one of the biggest global providers of lottery and betting solutions, has thrown its full support behind the expansion. The company is a leader in in integrated sports wagering technology, content and managed services.

Scientific Games technology has, since 2009, helped improved the Delaware gambling revenue through its content and managed services. The state’s sports betting revenue has grown from $10 million to $46 million across its land-based casinos and lottery retailers.

The director of the Delaware Lottery, Vernon Kirk, said that Scientific Games was ready to roll.

“In anticipation of the Supreme Court’s ruling on PASPA, we have been working with Scientific Games, our longtime sports betting provider, as well as training our lottery and casino staff, so that we were ready to launch full-scale, head-to-head betting on single games,” Kirk said.

Senior Vice President, of Global Lottery Systems at Scientific Games Pat McHugh, said it was not surprising Delaware was the first state to move on sports betting. He said Scientific Games was ready to be at the forefront of the new gambling world in the USA.

“Since Delaware is known as ‘The First State’, it’s appropriate they were first in the nation to expand regulated sports betting after the PASPA ruling,” he said.
