MLB Tuesday best bets & top parlay picks – August 16, 2022

Taking the mound in Major League Baseball (MLB) on Tuesday is Seattle’s Robbie Ray against the Angels in Anaheim, Zach Plesac facing Detroit in Cleveland, and All-Star Alek Manoah going for Toronto against the Orioles. Here are the best bets on MLB games scheduled for August 16, starting at 6:40pm ET.

Seattle Mariners (-170) @ Los Angeles Angels (+145)

Robbie Ray might only be 8-8, but his 156 strikeouts are eighth-most in MLB. He’s had the Angels absolutely guessing, going 10-of-49 with just five extra-base hits. That’s a .219 batting average and .576 OPS against. While Seattle’s offense remains in the bottom third of baseball, the Mariners’ bullpen is one of the best. Their 1.09 WHIP is tied with the Dodgers for the best bullpen WHIP in MLB, so Ray will have great backup.

That won’t be the case for Jose Suarez, but he will at least have a top-10 bullpen backing him up. The problem for the Angels has been scoring runs, however. They have scored the sixth-fewest runs in baseball (444), and Suarez has struggled with Seattle. The Mariners are 18-for-69 with five doubles and two doubles against Suarez. That’s a .768 OPS against, with J.P. Crawford doing much of the damage, going six-for-15 with two doubles. You might want to bet on him to have multiple total bases on Tuesday. Ty France is also three-for-nine with a homer, and Eugenio Suarez is two-for-six with a homer.

Take the Mariners in the first five innings and on the moneyline.

Detroit Tigers (+170) @ Cleveland Guardians (-200)

Zach Plesac is just 2-10 this season, but against the Tigers he has allowed just 29 hits in 139 at-bats for a .191 batting average and .552 OPS. Willi Castro has done much of the damage, going nine-for-19 with a double and a triple. Bet on him to have multiple total bases and probably multiple hits on Tuesday. Riley Greene also has two extra-base hits in eight at-bats, so do with that information what you will.

Countering for Cleveland will be Garrett Hill, who is 2-3 with a 4.66 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over 36.2 innings pitched spanning seven starts. Cleveland hasn’t hit him hard but does have six hits in 35 at-bats with two going for homers. Detroit has the worst run-scoring offense in MLB, so bet on the Guardians’ middling lineup to continue expanding their lead in the American League Central Division.

Take Cleveland in the first five innings and on the moneyline. Parlaying the Guardians and Mariners on the moneyline pays just +138 with Bovada, so consider adding another leg or two.

Baltimore Orioles (+180) @ Toronto Blue Jays (-210)

Alek Manoah has allowed a run in each of his starts since the All-Star Game, in which he tossed a scoreless inning. He’s allowed multiple runs in three of his last four starts since that scoreless inning, but his ERA remains top 10 in MLB (2.56). For Baltimore, only Ryan Mountcastle has had much success against Manoah. He has three of his team’s five extra-base hits against Manoah, going four-of-12 with a double and two dingers. Consider betting on him to have multiple total bases, but expect the rest of the Orioles to struggle given their .600 team OPS against.

Dean Kremer is expected to start for Baltimore, and he is 4-4 with a 3.69 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. The Blue Jays just love hitting off him, going nine-for-28 with a double and five dingers. That’s a .293 batting average and 1.263 OPS. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. each have two home runs off Kremer, so consider either or both for multiple total bases and maybe even home runs.

The Orioles are on a nice roll, but they are running into a buzzsaw. Take Toronto in the first five innings and on the moneyline. Parlaying the Blue Jays, Mariners, and Guardians on the moneyline pays around +251 with most betting sites.
