All-Swiss Semi at 2015 US Open – to bet on Federer or Wawrinka?

Roger Federer tennis odds

Friday September 11, from 7pm local time, Flushing Meadows, Arthur Ash Stadium.

IT’S THE all-Swiss game every tennis fan had hoped would pan out at this year’s U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows.

Roger “Fed Express” Federer will play Stan “The Man” Wawrinka in the second semi-final this Saturday at 1:00am to claim a final spot in the last grand slam of the year.

Federer has won the last four from five against Wawrinka, but Stan won their most recent game at the French Open in a surprising straight sets victory and Federer will be out for revenge.

Bookmakers are favouring the 17-time Grand Slam champion at $1.29 and rightly so as Federer has turned back the clock these past two weeks with superb results. Federer hasn’t dropped a set on his way to the semi finals and most of the money has gone onto the 3-0 option.

Wawrinka will provide a challenge, however, as the younger Swiss native has dropped only one set to date and he was able to break the big serve of South African Kevin Anderson with ease in his quarter final.

Federer vs. Wawrinka odds and tips

Federer – $1.37 at www.Crownbet.com
Wawrinka – $3.12

You might look at the price surrounding Roger Federer and be turned off, but adding the $1.37 to your multi-bets can increase payouts significantly and the added 20 percent from Sportsbet makes it all the more worthwhile.

Federer has looked outstanding this U.S Open and is the only top player to not look frail under the high temperatures in New York.

His tournament kicked off with a straight sets victory over Leonardo Mayer, where Federer dropped only five total games in the match. He was even more impressive in beating his second round opponent when winning 6-1, 6-2, 6-1.

His toughest game came unsurprisingly against the big-serving John Isner. The first two sets went to tie-breaks, but Federer stamped his class and came away with the straight sets win.

Richard Gasquet possessed a backhand that could have worried the former world number one, but Federer dispatched him and made Gasquet look second rate with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 demolition.

Federer sets betting market:

Federer 3-0 – $2.88
Federer 3-1 – $3.60
Federer 3-2 – $6

Federer has drifted from his opening quote of $2.50 to win in straight sets and is already out to $2.88 with CrownBet.com.au.

Many punters are expecting this game to go at least four sets as Stan Wawrinka is currently paying $1.36 to win at least one set.

The set betting option is tricky, but we like backing both 3-0 and 3-1 in Federer’s favour to ensure a profit.

Wawrinka exotic betting markets:

It’s fair to say we’re in the Federer camp, so we may as well look at some of the exotic betting options for his counterpart.

Wawrinka is currently $2.50 to win the first set and we see this as his best, and possibly only chance to take a set off Federer. If Federer wins the first set it could be curtains for Wawrinka, who will be looking to dent the confidence early on.

There are also some alternative handicap markets which could appeal to multi-bet bettors.

Wawrinka (+6.5) – $1.25
Wawinka (+4.5) – $1.66
Warinka (+1 first set) – $2.46 at Sportsbet.com.au

The +1 for the first set is great value compared to the $2.50 Wawrinka is paying to win the first set. This allows a 7-6 scoreline and instead of losing, you get a push and your money back.

Federer vs. Wawrinka predictions and news

We think Roger Federer will win in either three or four sets with a projected scoreline of 7-6, 6-3, 6-4, with the possibility of Wawrinka taking the first set narrowly.

Federer isn’t a player that needs much time to warm into the game and he should come out firing from the word go. If the head-to-head price of $1.37 at Sportsbet looks a touch short, it will probably only get shorter as the game draws nearer, so add it to your multi-bets.

Federer is relishing the chance to play his Davis Cup teammate in the semi final.

“Stan played a wonderful match against me in Paris,” Federer said in reference to Wawrinka’s straight sets victory in the 2015 French Open.

“I couldn’t be happier to play him here. It is cool for us to have two Swiss in the semi-finals.”

Stan Wawrinka joked about his past history with Federer, telling the interviewer to not quote the statistics, but coming off a strong win against Kevin Anderson will give the 30-year-old some confidence.

Stan didn’t make it easy,” Anderson said. “He was taking time away from me. He was swinging out and I was just a step slow.”

Wawrinka will need to be even more quicker to take time away from Federer, who looks to have all the time in the world at the U.S Open.

This could be the last chance for Federer to have a serious chance of winning another grand slam, so take the $2.75 at Bet365.com and enjoy seeing one of the best players of all time in action.
