Gill eyes batting revamp for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025

The Titans skipper says his side will be more aggressive this season, especially in powerplays.

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill is eager for his side to adopt a more attacking mindset in the 2025 IPL campaign, highlighting the powerplay phase as an area for improvement ahead of the season beginning on Sunday.

“We did not do well in the powerplay or the phases after that last season,” Gill said in the Titans’ pre-season press conference on Wednesday.

“We couldn’t play the way we wanted to in the powerplay and even after that.

“That shows in the fact that we couldn’t qualify for the playoffs.”

The 2024 campaign was a challenging one for Gujarat, who finished eighth on the IPL ladder after having made back-to-back finals in their first two seasons.

As a result, T20 betting sites have the Titans on the sixth line of betting to win the 2025 IPL title, with Nags.bet pricing them at +1000.

But Gill intends for the franchise to bring a very different approach in its fourth season of the competition.

“As a batsman, it is my responsibility to bat in a way that allows us to maximise the powerplay,” he said.

“That is what I strive for, and hopefully, this time we rectify the errors from last season.

“The plan is to score as many runs as possible, and lose as little wickets as possible.”

Gill has a new partner at the top of the order this year, with English batsman Jos Buttler joining the Titans in 2025.

Buttler’s form in the IPL has been mercurial; after scoring 863 runs in 2022, he has not made more than 400 in the past two editions.

Even so, top cricket bookmakers have him well in the market at +1400 to take out the Orange Cap for the most runs scored in IPL 2025.

Gujarat will begin their campaign in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, March 25, where they are -138.89 favourites to beat the Punjab Kings.
