The Golden Nugget Online Sportsbook app went live in Virginia last Wednesday, making it the ninth mobile betting platform to launch in the Old Dominion State since January.
Golden Nugget is one of the three online-only operators approved by the Virginia Lottery to offer bookmaking services in the state, the other two being Bally Bet and Barstool Sports. The Penn National Gaming-owned Barstool Sports app launched in August, and Bally Bet is on schedule to start taking wagers before the end of the year or early 2022.
For its operations in the Virginia sports betting market, Golden Nugget Online Gaming has partnered with technology provider Scientific Games. The company’s sportsbook will run on SG’s flagship OpenBet platform, while Don Best Sports will provide the operator with complete risk and liability management services.
The other sportsbooks operating in the state include FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars, BetMGM, BetRivers, Unibet, PointsBet, and Wynn Resorts’ WynnBet.
Golden Nugget extends Scientific Games partnership to West Virginia
Virginia is not the only state that is set to benefit from Golden Nugget’s partnership with Scientific Gaming.
In addition to the successful launch in the Old Dominion, the brand also announced that it had teamed up with Scientific Gaming in West Virginia, where it is approved to offer both internet sports betting and online casino gaming via a licensing agreement with Greenbrier Hotel Corp.
The operator’s online gaming app in West Virginia will leverage Scientific Games’ market-leading content aggregator platform, OpenGaming. The partnership will also see Golden Nugget gain access to the provider’s in-house studios, games portfolio, third-party content, responsible gaming tools, and a whole slew of other complementary features.
Also, Golden Nugget has revealed plans to migrate its retail sports betting product in New Jersey to Scientific Games’ technology in the coming months. The two companies have an existing partnership in the Garden State following the relaunch of the Golden Nugget mobile betting app there in April this year.
GNOG thanks Scientific Games for ‘continued support’
In a statement about the brand’s debut in Virginia and West Virginia, the President of Golden Nugget Online Gaming, Thomas Winter, started by acknowledging the support the company has received from its customers since it first launched in the regulated US online market.
He added that the brand was thrilled to announce its expansion to new markets and thanked Scientific Games for its solid support in the run up to the latest launches.
“Existing customers of Golden Nugget have truly embraced legalized sports betting and iGaming since we first introduced our online offering. Thanks to the continued support of Scientific Games and its modern OpenBet technology and OpenGaming platform, we are very excited to announce these range of launches,” said Winter.
The Chief Commercial Officer of OpenBet, Cathryn Lai, also commented on SG’s strengthened partnership with Golden Nugget, stating that her company is proud to work together with the reputable iGaming brand.
“We are proud of our ongoing partnership with Golden Nugget, one of the world’s most recognizable brands in the casino space,” said Lai.
“We are equally honored that they continue to entrust OpenBet to power their digital and retail sportsbooks across multiple states. The entire team worked tirelessly to facilitate these new state launches, and we look forward to working with Golden Nugget across new projects in the future.”
