The Gujarat Titans handed the Mumbai Indians their second consecutive defeat in IPL 2025, cruising to a 36-run win in Ahmedabad on Saturday and raising serious questions about the preseason favorites.

Batting first, Gujarat put up a competitive total of 8/196. Although their innings fizzled late, it proved more than enough as a disciplined bowling effort kept MI to just 6/160 in response.

The loss has seen Mumbai’s title odds drift from +500 in the preseason to +800 at Nags.bet, as they remain winless through two games.

Sai Sudharsan led the way for Gujarat, smashing 63 off 41 balls at the top of the order. He and Shubman Gill (38 off 27) added 78 for the first wicket, giving GT a strong platform.

England’s Jos Buttler followed up with a brisk 39 from 24, pushing the Titans to 2/179 by the 18th over.

However, Gujarat’s late-innings collapse saw them lose six wickets for just 17 runs in the final 13 deliveries — an area they’ll need to tidy up moving forward.

Still, their bowlers made sure it didn’t matter.

Prasidh Krishna was the standout with the ball, earning his first player of the match honors with figures of 2/18 from four overs. He struck early as MI slumped to 2/35, applying pressure that Mumbai never fully recovered from.

“I just stuck to my cutters — they were working well into the wicket,” Krishna said post-match. “Didn’t want to overthink it. Every ball mattered.”

Mumbai showed brief signs of recovery thanks to Tilak Varma (39 off 36) and Suryakumar Yadav (48 off 28), who took the score to 97/2. But once both fell, MI’s chase lost all momentum.

Robin Minz (3 off 6) struggled, while Hardik Pandya (11 off 17), Naman Dhir (18* off 11), and Mitchell Santner (18* off 9) failed to close the gap as the asking rate ballooned.

Despite back-to-back losses, the Indians are still ahead of Gujarat in title markets. Mumbai sit at +800 across cricket sportsbooks, while GT have firmed slightly to +900 after the win.
