The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will look to solidify their spot in the IPL 2025 top four when they host a struggling Chennai Super Kings (CSK) outfit on Monday at Ekana Cricket Stadium.
LSG are riding high after three consecutive wins and come into this clash with momentum, depth, and form on their side.
Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram have been key to their charge, with Pooran in particular enjoying a standout campaign, currently holding the orange cap with 349 runs at a strike rate of 168.
Their bowling unit, led by Shardul Thakur and rising spinner DS Rathi, continues to step up. Rathi has quietly become one of the tournament’s most effective spinners, while Shardul sits second in the purple cap race. Even without Mitchell Marsh last time out, LSG comfortably beat the Titans – underlining their bench strength and flexibility.
In stark contrast, the Chennai Super Kings are in disarray. Five losses in a row – their worst streak in IPL history – have left them languishing near the bottom of the table.
Their batting has looked listless, with MS Dhoni out of form, Ruturaj Gaikwad out injured, and little contribution from the middle order. CSK posted just 9/103 in their last game against Kolkata – a total the Knight Riders chased down with 59 balls to spare.
Even Noor Ahmad’s excellent return of 12 wickets hasn’t been enough to save Chennai. Unless something clicks dramatically, it’s hard to see them matching LSG’s quality, especially away from home.
With three wins on the bounce, confidence soaring, and a settled lineup, LSG have everything in their favour. Chennai, meanwhile, are struggling for identity and cohesion. A home win looks likely and comfortable.
Nicholas Pooran has been relentless this season, scoring 30+ in five of six innings and hitting a blazing 61 last time out. With Chennai’s bowling looking threadbare, especially in the middle overs, Pooran is a strong pick to fire again, and the +200 with top betting sites for him to cross 50 is hard to ignore.
DS Rathi has taken at least one wicket in every match and produced a match-winning spell against Mumbai. Given CSK’s struggles against spin – most recently against Sunil Narine – Rathi is excellent value at big odds at +1600 to claim the Player of the Match award.
