MGM Resorts signs on as official betting partner of MLS

MGM Resorts has further expanded its sports betting portfolio by signing on as the official wagering partner of North America’s premier association football division, Major League Soccer.

The multi-year agreement sees Roar Digital – MGM’s joint venture with GVC in the United States – become the league’s preferred sportsbook operator.

It also gives the company access to a wide range of MLS data as well as exclusive marketing content and prime advertising spaces.

Furthermore, the groups will work together to create a free-to-play game for US fans, while Las Vegas becomes a priority location for high-profile soccer events in the future.

“Major League Soccer is proud to partner with MGM Resorts to bring existing and new fans close to our sport in innovative and immersive ways,” said MLS Commissioner Don Garber.

“MGM Resorts is a leader in sports betting, and they recognize the progress of our league and the growth of the sport in the United States and Canada.

“Together, we will deliver cutting-edge data and analytics to MLS fans, and fan engagement will be the driving force behind every initiative in our partnership.”

The MLS Players’ Association also acknowledged the financial boons of such a deal, although the message was a lot more cautious and called for greater oversight in the wider gambling landscape.

“MLS’s sponsorship agreement with MGM and sports betting in general will generate additional revenues,” the statement read.

“At the same time, sports betting presents significant, attendant challenges for players that need to be addressed by MLS and state and federal legislatures.

“Players’ rights and protections must be clearly defined in this new landscape.”

MLS is the fourth major sports league to partner up with MGM Resorts after the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball.
