Cleveland Guardians @ Houston Astros

Houston’s starter, Christian Javier, has only faced three Guardians, allowing one hit in three at-bats. Javier has been excellent this season, however, posting a 2.87 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 39 strikeouts over 31.1 innings pitched.

Cal Quantrill is expected to start for Cleveland, who has a 1.133 OPS allowed against Houston hitters. The Astros are six-for-15 with a homer against Quantrill. Center fielder Chas McCormack has the homer and another hit in three at-bats, and Jose Altube is two-for-five against Quantrill.

Cleveland pitchers have been MLB’s third-worst team at allowing hits or walks with runners in scoring position, posting a 1.66 WHIP in those situations. But after the sixth inning, the Guardians guard the lead if they have it. They have the best opponent batting average after the sixth inning (.199) and second-best WHIP (1.10). Seattle Mariners @ Oakland Athletics

Robbie Ray will start for Seattle, and he’s held Oakland to a .666 OPS in 38 at-bats, striking out 14 and walking just one. Of the seven hits he’s allowed to the Athletics, just three went for extra bases, with the A’s getting one home run and two doubles.

Paul Blackburn has been great this season (4-0, 1.91 ERA, and 0.99 WHIP) but has been hit pretty hard by a few Mariners over 20 total at-bats. J.P. Crawford is three-for-eight with a double, and Dylan Moore is one-for-two with a triple against Blackburn. In all, five Mariners have posted a combined .812 OPS against Blackburn, scoring five runs against him.

Boston Red Sox @ Chicago White Sox

Lucas Giolito has been excellent again this year for Chicago, to the tune of a 2.84 ERA and 1.23 WHIP. The Red Sox are also unfamiliar with Giolito, so he’ll have that going for him early in this game.

The White Sox aren’t familiar with Rich Hill, either, but their best hitters bat right handed, and Hill has struggled against righties, with a .770 OPS allowed. Expect Jose Abreu, Tim Anderson, and Luis Robert to be comfortable at the dish with Hill on the hill.
