MLB Friday betting picks & top value plays – April 29, 2022

MLB best bets

The Major League Baseball will host 15 games across America on Friday, April 29th and Baseball specialist Evan Carroll has brought you the top picks and best parlay bet for the day here at BettingPlanet.com.

Philadelphia Phillies @ New York Mets

Probable Pitchers: Aaron Nola vs Tylor Megill

We have seen this matchup between the Phillies and Mets already this year, but this time it will be held in New York rather than Philadelphia. The Mets (14-6) have been off to a great start under Buck Showalter and took two of three the last time these two teams met. Everything seems to be clicking for the Mets but their bullpen which could make this a pretty interesting matchup.

Phillies’ right hander has been up and down thus far this season but had a nice outing his last time on the hill against the Brewers. Nola went seven innings only allowing one hit and zero runs, he looked every bit in his 2018 form where he came in third in Cy Young voting. Nola has proven to be a very streaky pitcher, so his success against a tough Brewers lineup could very well translate to this game against the Mets. In his one start against these same Mets, Nola got hit around a little bit. Nola tossed only 3.1 innings, giving up three earned runs and allowing three walks which is very unlike Nola.

On the other hand, Tylor Megill has been especially good for the Mets as well. Megill after being named the opening day starter has thrown 23 innings this year and has only allowed six earned runs including one start against the Phillies where he went 5.1 innings giving up three hits and no earned runs. It seems like this is a different Phillies team, however, as they’re coming off a great series against the Rockies where their offense finally woke up. The Phillies big named offense exploded for 25 runs in three games against the Rockies.

Any NL East matchup this year between the Phillies, Mets, and Braves is must see TV. We are strictly buying into the Phillies’ offense over the last week and Nola’s last start against the Brewers. The Phillies money line and over 7.5 runs scored seems like a safe move with some decent value.

Detroit Tigers @ Los Angeles Dodgers

Probable Pitchers : Tyler Alexander vs Tyler Anderson

There really isn’t much to say here except for one of these teams is a much better team than the other. The Dodgers have been every bit as advertised this year after losing in the NLCS a season ago. The offense is just as good as we had thought, the starting rotation and bullpen all seem to be clicking, there doesn’t look like there is one hole on this stacked Dodgers team.

The Tigers are coming off one of the most pathetic performances we have ever seen against the Minnesota Twins, while we do not expect them to be that bad this year, they clearly are not ready to win many games that they’re underdogs in.

This is not a pick against the Tigers as much as it is for the Dodgers. There is no shot that the Dodgers lose this game. If you’re looking for a safe pick the money line works, but the Dodgers -1.5 gives you a bit more juice so we recommend taking the Dodgers -1.5 runs in this one.

Arizona Diamondbacks @ St. Louis Cardinals

Probable pitchers : Madison Bumgardner vs Adam Wainwright

By all accounts, the Diamondbacks were supposed to be the worst team in baseball this season followed by the Pirates and Orioles, but it looks like that might not be the case. While the D-Backs (8-11) haven’t been spectacular this season, they haven’t been as bad as many people had thought. Fortunately for Arizona, Bumgardner is showing some signs of life this season. He has faced the Mets, Astros, and Padres this year and has only allowed two earned runs. While he hasn’t managed to go past the fifth innings in any of his four starts, he has been effective when he is out on the hill.

Although it’s hard to know how long Bumgardner can maintain this level of success, he has given us no reason to think he can’t handle an average Cardinals lineup. For the Cardinals, Wainwright who is in the midst of his age 41 season has looked to be a serviceable pitcher. He has a 3.86 ERA in 21 innings thus far. He hasn’t looked particularly good or bad but he sure still has that pattened curveball in his back pocket.

The Diamondbacks +150 with the top betting sites could be an interesting bet if Bumgardner gives the Diamondbacks a quality start as the offense has been surprisingly good.
