MLB Monday betting picks & top parlay bets – May 23, 2022

MLB best bets

There are 12 MLB games scheduled for Monday, May 23, including four American League games, six National League games, and two interleague games. Here are the best bets on the games featuring American League teams scheduled for Monday, starting at 6:35pm EDT.

Baltimore Orioles (+230) @ New York Yankees (-290)

Gerrit Cole starts for the Yankees, and Jordan Lyles will go for the Orioles. Baltimore batters are certainly familiar with Cole, amassing 108 at-bats against the Yankees’ ace. Those repetitions haven’t led to much success, however. The Orioles have collected just 24 hits, only one of which was a home run. It all adds up to a .664 OPS against Cole, who shouldn’t need a lot of run support to get the win at home.

Take New York on the moneyline, and to win by at least two runs at -135 with Bovada.

Cleveland Guardians (+170) @ Houston Astros (-200)

The Guardians will likely start with Zach Plesac, who has struggled to a 4.42 ERA and 1.34 WHIP thus far. The Astros are mostly unfamiliar with him, but five of Houston’s hitters have combined for an .833 OPS against Plesac, albeit in a very small sample size (11 at-bats).

Luis Garcia has been better than Plesac all season and against the few Guardians he’s faced. In nine at-bats, he’s allowed just one hit. Bet on Houston’s offense to support Garcia and get the win by two or more. Parlay that with New York on the moneyline at +101 and against the spread at +248.

Detroit Tigers (+155) @ Minnesota Twins (-180)

Elvin Rodriguez is starting for Detroit, and he allowed four runs to the White Sox in just 2.2 innings in his only appearance for the Tigers this season. The best thing Rodriguez has going for him against Minnesota is that the Twins haven’t seen him, and that didn’t seem to be a problem for a Chicago side that has struggled mightily on offense this season.

Chris Archer hasn’t exactly blown away Tigers hitters, allowing nine homers in 89 at-bats. But of the 33 hits he’s allowed, just 14 have gone for extra bases. He’s also allowed just four walks, limiting the Tigers to a .675 OPS despite the nine homers allowed.

You might want to place a player prop bet on Miguel Cabrera to get multiple hits or total bases. He’s eight-for-20 with a double and two dingers against Archer. Even better is Javier Baez, who’s eight-for-15 against Archer. One of the two has to come through with multiple hits or multiple total bases. Jonathan Schoop also has 15 hits in 40 at-bats with six home runs and three doubles, so you might want to bet on him to get more than two total bases against Archer, even if he only gets a couple of at-bats.

Still, all that success against Archer might not be enough to keep Detroit in the game given the question mark that is Elvin Rodriguez. Archer has mostly kept the Twins in games, with Minnesota winning three of the seven games Archer has started and losing two by two or fewer runs.

Take Minnesota on the moneyline and parlay the Twins with the Yankees and Astros on the moneyline at around +213 with the top betting sites. Taking all three to win by two or more pays as much as +648.
