Tuesday’s MLB betting picks & best prop bets – July 26, 2022

MLB best bets

On Tuesday in Major League Baseball (MLB), Tampa Bay All-Star Shane McClanahan starts in Baltimore, the Dodgers host the Nationals, and the Yankees start Jordan Montgomery against the Mets’ Taijuan Walker in the Subway Series. Here are the best bets on MLB games scheduled for July 26, starting at 2:20pm ET.

Tampa Bay Rays (-175) @ Baltimore Orioles (+150)

Shane McClanahan has won 10 of his 18 starts, and Tampa Bay has won 12 of those 18 games. The Rays have covered in just eight of those 18 starts, however, so keep that in mind when betting the spread. Bet on the Rays to lead after five innings, though, as McClanahan has absolutely stifled the Orioles. In 92 plate appearances, the Orioles have just 23 hits off McClanahan, with just four doubles and two dingers. That’s a .588 team OPS and .223 batting average against. Ramon Urias has two of Baltimore’s doubles and another hit in eight at-bats, so consider betting on him to have multiple total bases on Tuesday. Cedric Mullins is also five-of-14 with a homer, so do with that information what you will.

Baltimore will counter with Spenser Watkins, who is 3-1 with a 3.93 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 12 starts. Against the Rays, though, he’s allowed 15 hits in 39 at-bats, with six going for extra bases. That’s an .877 team OPS and .330 batting average against. Randy Arozarena has a third of Tampa Bay’s hits in just eight at-bats, including a double. You might consider betting on him to have multiple hits on Tuesday.

Tampa Bay has the eighth-best team ERA amongst MLB relievers, but Baltimore is fourth-best. They do, however, have identical WHIPs (1.20), sixth-best in baseball. Expect Tampa to be far enough ahead after five innings to hold on and win. Take the Rays in the first five innings and on the moneyline.

Washington Nationals (+210) @ Los Angeles Dodgers (-250)

The Dodgers always seem to have effective starting pitching, and Mitch White is no exception. While he’s just 1-2 in nine starts, he sports a 3.78 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. He’ll have unfamiliarity on his side, as Nationals super-utility player Ehire Adrianza has just one at-bat against him. He’ll also have the best offense in baseball behind him (.777 team OPS), while Washington will run the seventh-worst offense out there. More importantly, since White hasn’t completed six innings all season, the Dodgers have the second-best bullpen in baseball (1.12 WHIP). The Nationals have the eighth-worst team WHIP in baseball (1.34 WHIP).

Going for the Nationals will be Josia Gray, who is 7-6 with a 4.40 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. He’s logged top-30 strikeout numbers (106), but he’s also struggled mightily with left-handed batters (.945 OPS against). Interestingly enough, of the three hits the Dodgers have against him in 14 at-bats, two are homers hit by right-handed batters (Mookie Betts and Trea Turner). This does not bode well for Gray.

Take Los Angeles in the first five innings, on the moneyline, and to win by two or more runs. Parlaying the Dodgers and Rays together on the moneyline pays +120 with Bovada.

New York Yankees (-105) @ New York Mets (-115)

Jordan Montgomery is scheduled to start for the Yankees, and he’s handled most of the Mets pretty well. They’re 12–of-40 with a double and two dingers for a .797 OPS. Francisco Lindor has done most of the damage, going five-for-nine with a double and a dinger, so consider betting on him to have multiple hits, multiple total bases, and maybe a home run.

Countering for the Mets on the mound will be Taijuan Walker, who has been outstanding this season. He’s 7-2 with a 2.55 ERA and 1.09 WHIP. He’s been rather dreadful against the Yankees, though, as has everybody. The Bronx Bombers are 25-for-110 with four doubles and eight dingers and a .937 OPS. Both of Aaron Judge’s hits in seven at-bats have gone for home runs. Giancarlo Stanton is four-of-10 with a double and a dinger, so he might have multiple total bases on Tuesday. DJ LeMahieu is also seven-for-25 with a double, so consider placing a player prop bet on him.

The Yankees have a considerably better bullpen. They’re third in team WHIP amongst relievers while the Mets are 11th, so take the Yankees in the first five innings and on the moneyline. Parlaying the Yankees, Rays, and Dodgers together on the moneyline pays +329.
