Gerrit Cole and the Yankees host the Reds on Tuesday’s Major League Baseball (MLB) schedule, while Logan Webb and the Giants welcome Dallas Keuchel and the Diamondbacks, and Chris Sale returns to the mound for Boston in Tampa Bay. Here are the best bets on MLB games scheduled for Tuesday starting at 1:10pm ET.
Cincinnati Reds (+245) @ New York Yankees (-295)
Gerrit Cole is scheduled to start for New York, and he’s been great: 8-2 with a 3.26 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. He’s been especially effective against the Reds, who have 16 hits in 68 at-bats, with just four going for extra bases. That’s a .120 batting average and .358 WHIP. Most of that damage has been done by Tommy Pham, who is nine-for-18 with two doubles and a dinger. Consider placing a player prop bet on him to have multiple total bases on Tuesday.
Cincinnati counters with Graham Ashcraft, who has been fine for the Reds. He’s 4-2 with a 4.35 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. He’ll have unfamiliarity on his side the first time through the Yankees’ lineup. But the Yankees have the best offense in baseball when it comes to team OPS, runs scored, and homers. The Yankees relievers are also the second-best in baseball with a 2.74 ERA.
Take New York in the first five innings, on the moneyline, and to win by at least two.
New York Yankees to win
Arizona Diamondbacks (+190) @ San Francisco Giants (-225)
The Giants are another big favorite on Tuesday because Logan Webb has been a top-25 pitcher in all of baseball this season. He’s 7-3 with a 2.98 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. He’s managed to shut down the Diamondbacks in a small sample as well. In 24 at-bats, Arizona batters have five hits, with three going for doubles. That’s a .604 OPS and .212 batting average.
Dallas Keuchel, on the other hand, has not been great this season. He’s 2-6, and not because Arizona is offensively challenged (24th-ranked team OPS). He’s got a 7.63 ERA and has allowed almost two hits or walks per inning pitched. The Giants have enjoyed their plate appearances against him, too. They’re five-for-20 with two doubles and an .838 OPS.
Take San Francisco in the first five innings, on the moneyline, and to win by two. The Diamondbacks’ relievers are 24th in ERA and 25th in WHIP. Parlaying San Francisco with New York on the moneyline pays -108 with Bovada.
San Francisco Giants to win
Boston Red Sox (-125) @ Tampa Bay Rays (+105)
Chris Sale is returning from a long stint on the injured list to make his first start for Boston, and if his last rehab start is any indication (he walked five AAA batters and then threw a temper tantrum), the Rays might not have a problem facing Boston’s ace. In fact, Tampa had the highest on-base average against him last season (.372). The Rays had 16 hits and drew three walks over the 9.2 innings Sale pitched.
Corey Kluber will go for Tampa Bay, and he’s 4-5 with a respectable 3.62 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. He’s managed to hold the Red Sox in check, too. In 126 plate appearances, the Red Sox have 30 hits, five walks, and 11 extra-base hits against Kluber. That’s a .638 OPS and .259 on-base percentage.
Most of that damage has been done by a pair of players. Jackie Bradley Jr. has seven hits in 20 at-bats, with a double and two dingers, and J.D. Martinez is nine-of-34 with two doubles and two dingers. Place a pair of player prop bets on each to have multiple total bases on Tuesday, but take the underdog Rays in the first five innings and on the moneyline. The Rays have the better bullpen and the better starter. Parlaying Tampa Bay, New York, and San Francisco on the moneyline pays +296.
