IPL 2025: MI still alive after thrilling win over DC

Mumbai Indians kept their 2025 IPL season alive with a 12-run win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, improving the five-time champions to seventh in the standings.

MI entered the contest with just one win to their name from five matches, priced as heavy underdogs across IPL bookmakers to beat top-of-the-table DC.

However, the visitors’ top three built well to provide them with a healthy platform before Naman Dhir (38 from 17) and Tilak Varma (59 from 33) turned on the fireworks towards the end of the innings as Mumbai posted 205/5.

In response, Delhi lost Jake Fraser-McGurk (0 from 1) first ball, then put on a 119-run partnership for the second wicket.

While the stand between Abhishek Porel (33 from 25) and Karun Nair (89 from 40) swung cricket betting odds strongly in their favor, the hosts were unable to capitalize, losing four wickets for 26 runs in the middle overs.

Vipraj Nigam (14 from 8) and Ashutosh Sharam (17 from 14) stabilised and put Delhi in a winning position at 191/7 with 15 runs needed from nine balls.

That is, until a trio of run-outs in as many balls handed MI the win as the home side fell 12 runs short of their target.

“Winning is always special, especially in games like this,” Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya said after the match.

“You have to keep fighting and it means a lot.

“I always believe fielding is something which can change the game upside down.

“We were switched on, didn’t give up and they got the chances and converted, just by making sure the game is not over till it’s over.

“Keep fighting — that was the chatter in the group and my message to the boys.

“Wins like this change the momentum and everything comes back.”
