West Indies continue T20I dominance with South Africa whitewash

Roston Chase has lead the West indies to a win in a T20 Series against SOuth Africa.

The West Indies have capped off a triumphant T20 series against South Africa, defeating the visitors by eight wickets in the third match, to win the series 3-0 in Tarouba on Wednesday (AEST).

Having comfortably won the first two T20Is by seven wickets and 30 runs, cricket betting sites had the West Indies as strong favourites heading into the final match of the series.

The home side did not disappoint, restricting South Africa to 108/4 in a rain-affected 13 overs, before chasing the adjusted total down for the loss of just two wickets, with 22 balls to spare.

Romario Shepherd was the West Indies key wicket taker, picking up the scalps of both Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram in his first over.

However, it was arguably Akeal Hosein who did the most damage with the ball, leaking just 11 runs from his three overs, while also bagging the dangerous Reeza Hendricks.
Tristan Stubbs was South Africa’s main contributor with 40 runs from 15 balls.

His contribution paled in the comparison to the team effort from the West Indies though.

Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer all scored 30+ runs at strike rates of 175+, easing the hosts over the finish line despite the early loss of Alick Athanaze.

Dominant South African win shortens West Indies’ T20 World Cup odds

Bookmaker Betway has shortened West Indies odds of winning the 2026 T20 World Cup to $13, behind Pakistan on $11, but ahead of 2021 finalist New Zealand ($15).

West Indies captain Roston Chase said his message to his players during the interrupted clash was to play their natural game, with pressure early key to winning.

“We wanted to win the series 3-0,” he said.

“I just asked the boys to give me victory because you want to start well.

“The powerplay, we were doing well.

“I just thought that today the guys came out and applied pressure early.

“In a shortened game, we want guys to go and play their natural game.

“Guys came out and played brilliantly.”

The next T20 World Cup is still almost two years away, but the West Indies’ recent form has seen them slip on the sixth line of betting, with the tournament set to be played in Sri Lanka and India.
