Team Penske locks out the front row as Will Power grabs pole at Gateway. See the 2025 IndyCar starting grid, odds & betting tips for Sunday night.
The IndyCar Series returns to the Midwest this Sunday night for the 2025 Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway — a 260-lap sprint under the lights at one of the series’ most technically demanding ovals. In a historic first, this race will air on FOX in prime time, giving IndyCar its biggest national TV platform since the 2025 Indy 500 and offering a golden opportunity to capture new fans on motorsport’s busiest broadcast day.
All eyes will be on Team Penske, which swept practice and dominated qualifying to lock out three of the top five grid spots. Will Power broke a nearly two-year drought by scoring his record-extending 71st career pole, clocking a two-lap average of 180.329 mph. “I sent it — a lot,” Power said. “It’s been a while. Hopefully we can execute in the race.” Teammate Scott McLaughlin, who has never finished outside the top five at Gateway, joins him on the front row, while Josef Newgarden, the king of Gateway with five wins and over 599 laps led, starts fifth.
Power’s pole marked the 700th in Team Penske’s motorsport history — a fitting milestone at a track where the team has claimed nine wins. And they’ll be looking for their first win of the 2025 season, after a frustrating start that has seen Honda rivals like Alex Palou and Kyle Kirkwood dominate the headlines.
Palou, who leads the championship with five wins in the opening seven races, qualified ninth — leaving him work to do on a track where passing can be tricky. Rising star Marcus Armstrong was the fastest Honda in sixth, continuing his rapid adaptation to ovals after transitioning from a Formula 1 background.
The night-time race conditions, a late Saturday high-line practice session, and the integration of IndyCar’s new hybrid boost system — offering up to 150 kJ per lap of extra energy — promise a dynamic strategic contest. Track temps are expected to stay cool under the lights, which could benefit smooth operators like Scott Dixon, who will make his 410th career start and starts 11th. Three rookies (Jacob Abel, Louis Foster, Robert Shwartzman) will also make their WWTR oval debuts.
With Chevrolet drivers locking out the top five in qualifying, and Team Penske’s resurgence on full display, Sunday night’s Gateway race could be the breakout moment of the season for the Bowtie brand.

He’s never missed the top five at Gateway, qualified second behind teammate Power, and enters with serious motivation after a tough Indy 500. McLaughlin’s pace is real, and his racecraft in traffic could be the difference late if strategy gets spicy. At +450, he’s the value Penske play at 888starz, for a race-day breakthrough.
Back on pole for the first time since 2023, Will Power has five poles and one win at Gateway — but now he has clean air, momentum, and Chevy power on a track where track position is everything. If he gets a clean start and manages tire wear under the lights, he’s every chance to convert for Team Penske. He’s priced at -131.58 for a podium finish with Stake.com.
Quietly flying under the radar, Malukas impressed with a P4 qualifying effort in the AJ Foyt Chevy. With technical support from Penske and past podium form here (P3 in 2022), he’s well poised to convert that grid spot into points.
