The internet service providers (ISPs) have been tasked by the Australian Communications and Media Authority(ACMA) to block illegal offshore gambling and affiliate marketing websites operating in the country.
Among the growing numbers of bookies to join the list are Pokies Palour, Ninja Spins, Australian Casino Sites, AU Online Casino, Pokies online Casino and CasinoAus.
Investigations carried out reveals that the sites are operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
Protecting Australians against illegal online gambling is one of the reasons behind website blocking, a press release from the ACMA states “website blocking provides a valuable chance to notify the public to illegal gambling services through the messaging that display when there is an attempt to access the site.”
With the first move by the authority to blocking websites in November 2019, more than 426 illegal gambling websites have been blocked from operating in Australian. Also, over 160 illegal services have removed out of the Australian Market since Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) started implementing the new illegal offshore gambling rules in 2017.
Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) also warned clients about the credibility of certain services, revealing that even if a service looks real, it may still lack important customer protections, this means that customers who patronize illegal gambling services are at the possibility of losing their hard earned money.
Research from Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) for last month, shows that more than one in ten Australians played in online gambling at some stage in the last six months. This was an increase from the 8% previously in 2020 compared to 11% now.
