Formula 1 returns to the streets of Baku this week for Round 17 of the 2025 World Championship, as the grid prepares for the ever-chaotic Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Taking place from September 19–21, the Baku City Circuit features one of the longest straights in Formula 1, paired with tight corners and a narrow castle section that often leads to drama. Free Practice 1 gets underway at 1:30pm local time (AZT) on Friday, with qualifying at 4:00pm Saturday and the grand prix set for 3:00pm on Sunday, September 21.
The title fight remains tight after Monza, where Max Verstappen finally returned to the top step with a composed drive. Lando Norris finished second, while Oscar Piastri limited the damage with P3 — keeping his lead intact but under pressure.
Baku’s street layout is known for producing unpredictable races and late-race safety cars, making it fertile ground for upsets, strategic gambles, and momentum swings in the championship.
After a thrilling run of form from McLaren, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris lead the betting with leading sportsbooks for the Azerbaijan GP in Baku. Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc remain in striking distance.

Piastri may have settled for P3 in Monza, but his consistency this season has been unmatched. He remains the championship leader and now returns to a street circuit where his precise driving style is a huge asset. With McLaren’s top-end speed and Piastri’s cool head under pressure, he’s in prime position to bounce back with a win in Baku.
Hamilton looked sharp last time out in Monza and has a strong history at Baku, including a win and multiple podiums. With Ferrari’s straight-line speed and Hamilton’s experience on street tracks, he’s great value to fight for a top-three finish — especially if the front-runners trip over each other.
Hadjar continues to shine in his rookie season and heads to Baku with momentum after some strong midfield performances. The VCARB has shown surprising pace on low-downforce circuits, and with safety cars likely to shuffle the order, Hadjar could easily find himself fighting for P6 or better.
