The Bundesliga returns this weekend for a full slate of Matchday 2 fixtures, starting with Hamburger SV and St. Pauli at Volksparkstadion on Friday night.
Following some surprising results on Matchday 1, Germany’s top-tier soccer league promises another weekend full of goals and exciting clashes.
Friday, August 29 – 8:30pm CEST – Volksparkstadion
Both of these squads had to settle for a point on Matchday 1 — Hamburg against Borussia Dortmund, and St. Pauli against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Both teams have scored in four of the last six meetings between these two, so that’s where the smart money will be going.
Saturday, August 30 – 3:30pm CEST – Red Bull Arena
RB Leipzig will be looking to bounce back in a big way from their six-goal smashing at Bayern Munich on the opening day. FC Heidenheim struggled in their 3-1 home loss to Wolfsburg last weekend, and Leipzig’s superiority should shine through in this one.
Saturday, August 30 – 3:30pm CEST – PreZero Arena
TSG Hoffenheim surprised on Matchday 1 with a 2-1 away win over Bayer Leverkusen. They return home to host another top-four contender in Eintracht Frankfurt, who recorded a dominant 4-1 victory over Werder Bremen. This matchup has produced 16 goals in the last four meetings, so back the over.
Saturday, August 30 – 3:30pm CEST – Weserstadion
Werder Bremen suffered the second-biggest defeat on the opening weekend, losing 4-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt on the road. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen were upset by Hoffenheim 2-1 in their home opener. Leverkusen boast a much stronger team, and at -106.38 with top sportsbooks, that price is too good to pass up.
Saturday, August 30 – 3:30pm CEST – MHPArena
VfB Stuttgart went down to Union Berlin 2-1 in another big upset on Matchday 1. Borussia Mönchengladbach failed to impress at home in a goalless draw against newly promoted Hamburger SV. Expect Stuttgart to produce a better performance at home and claim their first win of the campaign.
Saturday, August 30 – 6:30pm CEST – WWK Arena
Bayern Munich flexed their muscles on the opening night of the season with a 6-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig, proving they are once again the team to beat in the Bundesliga. Augsburg claimed a 3-1 win over Freiburg in Sandro Wagner’s first game in charge. Munich will prove hard to beat, but expect plenty of chances at either end and goals for both sides.
Sunday, August 31 – 3:30pm CEST – Volkswagen Arena
Wolfsburg kicked off their 2025/26 campaign with a 3-1 away win over Heidenheim, while Mainz went down to 10 men against Köln and conceded a late goal to lose 1-0 at home. This clash produced 11 goals across both fixtures last season, and both teams have scored in each of the last four meetings, so expect goals in this one.
Sunday, August 31 – 5:30pm BST – Signal Iduna Park
Borussia Dortmund had to settle for an unexpected 3-3 draw against St. Pauli, and Union Berlin held on for a big 2-1 win over Stuttgart at home on Matchday 1. After smashing Union Berlin 6-0 in this fixture at the end of last season, Dortmund are expected to bounce back in a big way.
Sunday, August 31 – 7:30pm CEST – RheinEnergieSTADION
Coming off a solid performance and a late winner against Mainz last weekend, Köln will host Freiburg, who were beaten 3-1 by Augsburg. Köln will not want to lose their first home game, and with a strong defense, they should keep this match close and tight throughout.
