La Liga 2021/22 Matchweek 9 betting picks & top odds

With Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid both out of action in La Liga Matchweek 9 due to postposed matches, Real Sociedad could take over the top spot on the table with a win at home against Mallorca. We’ll take a look at that matchup as well as Levante vs Getafe and Villarreal vs Osasuna in this week’s La Liga soccer betting picks.

Levante vs Getafe

Levante (0-4-4) and Getafe (0-1-7) will both be looking for their first win of the season this Saturday night. Getafe snapped a seven-game losing streak in a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad in Matchweek 8. Levante meanwhile lost its third straight match without scoring a goal and has been outscored 6-0 over that three-game stretch.

Getafe has scored a grand total of three goals in 2021-22 and Levante isn’t far ahead with only six. The low-scoring nature of these two teams has caused the total in this match to be set at only two goals. But that total may not be properly factoring in how bad these two teams are defensively; each has conceded a league-high 13 goals. Three of the last four matches between these two club have produced three goals or more. This battle between two of La Liga’s worst sides could be a more high-scoring game than most people anticipate.

Real Sociedad vs Mallorca

Real Sociedad (5-2-1) should be in sole possession of first place on La Liga table if not for that disastrous draw against lowly Getafe. Sociedad had 62% of that match’s possession and five shots on target, but in the end it had to settle for a disappointing one point. After a week off to be angry about that result, Real Sociedad has a great opportunity to take its frustrations out on Mallorca this Saturday.

Mallorca (3-2-3) has done a good job of taking advantage of its matches against bad teams, earning 1-0 victories over Espanyol, Levante and Alaves. In its other five matches against more quality opponents, however, Mallorca has been outscored 12-4 and is 0-2-3. This is a match that Real Sociedad should easily win at home, making it worth paying the extra juice on the moneyline.

Villarreal vs Osasuna

Villarreal (2-5-0) picked up its second win of the season in a 2-0 victory over Real Betis earlier this month. The club has conceded only three goals all season and has five clean sheets, including a particularly impressive one on the road against high-powered Real Madrid in Matchweek 7. If this offense was just a little more potent, Villarreal would be near the top of the table instead of in the bottom half with five draws.

This matchup against Osasuna (4-2-2) looks like a good one on paper for Villarreal. Osasuna has a solid offense that has scored 11 goals this season, but that won’t be a problem for Villarreal’s elite defense, especially at home where they should control the tempo. On the other side of the pitch, Osasuna is tied for 16th in goals against with 11 conceded in 2021-22. Villarreal should be able to score a goal or two against this squad to secure another win.
