While Syracuse did not end the season well losing three of their last four games two of the losses came facing top five teams in Duke and Virginia. On top of that Baylor ended the season even worse losing their last four games where they only faced one ranked team.
The Bears are led by a defense that ranks 64th in the nation going up an average of only 67.2 ppg, but in their last two games they gave 78 and 83 points respectively. They only have an ATS record of 1-3-1 in their last five games facing a team that has a winning record.
Syracuse has a solid backcourt that will give Baylor problems and Tyus Battle lead the team averaging 17.2 ppg. The Orange have not been a good betting team as of late in ACC play, but they have covered the spread in four of their last five non-conference games. Look for that trend to continue, as Cuse will play well on both ends of the floor and win and cover the spread.
While Villanova is the higher seed in this game they face a St. Mary’s team that is coming off a big win in their last game beating top-ranked Gonzaga in the WCC Tournament finals. The Wildcats have won two of the last three NCAA Tournaments and while they are on a #6 seed they are a dangerous team led by Phil Booth (18.6 ppg).
St. Mary’s won seven of their last eight games and while they won 22 games they would have been out of the Big Dance if they did not get the automatic bid by beating Gonzaga. They have a good defense, but they will not be able to handle a Nova team that has experience in the big games.
The Wildcats are balanced and will show that in this game and their defense will keep the Gaels in check. Villanova will win and cover in this game ending St. Mary’s run in the Big Dance right off the bat.
Tip: Villanova to cover -5.5 at -111.11 at Nags.bet.
Game 3 – Florida vs. Nevada
Nevada is the higher seed and is the betting favorite in this game, but should they be? Yes, they won 29 games on the season and won the MWC regular season title, but they lost in the tournament semifinals where they only scored 56 points. On top of that they only beat one ranked team and that was early facing Arizona State, who is not currently ranked and is a play-in game in the NCAA Tournament.
Florida had won two in a row before a loss to Auburn in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament. They upset 9th ranked LSU in their previous game and they beat the Tigers twice this season. The Gators are not a high scoring team, but they rank 21st in the nation only giving up an average of 63.6 ppg.
Florida is 4-0 ATS in their last four games while Nevada is only 1-7 ATS in their last eight games. Take the Gators in this one, as they will, at least, cover the spread getting two points.
