Mukiele joins PSG as French giants plot Champions League tilt

Mukiele joins PSG

Paris Saint-Germain have bolstered their backline by signing defender Nordi Mukiele from Red Bull Leipzig in a deal that could be worth up to €16 million. Mukiele can play in multiple positions and will be a big part of PSG’s plans in this coming season. He has spent the last four years in the Bundesliga with Leipzig and now will head back to his native France to compete for a Champions League title.

Mukiele is a 24-year-old defender who will become a key depth piece for PSG. The French giants have one of the best attacks in the world but need to build a good spine in order to compete for that elusive Champions League title. With Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar, PSG can score on anyone, but in recent seasons their defense has let them down. They are hoping Mukiele is one of the guys who can fix that problem.

While Mukiele may not be a regular starter for PSG, his versatility makes him a valuable asset. PSG have dominated Ligue Un in recent seasons, but they consistently let down their fans in the Champions League. Last season, they choked a two-goal lead to eventual champions Real Madrid in the round of 16, and it was their defense that drew the ire of soccer pundits around the world.

PSG are -1000 with Bovada to win the French league, and considering they have won eight of the last 10 Ligue Un titles, they are a safe bet to win it again. However, at -1000, it’s simply too short to bet on – no matter how much of a lock it may seem.

In the Champions League outright market, PSG are paying around +500 with most soccer betting sites. While they definitely have the top-end talent to win this tournament, it is their depth that has been their downfall in the past. Mukiele will be helpful in solving that problem, but he is only one man.

At +500, we recommend staying away from PSG as it is not great value. While they can definitely go on a run, the Parisian giants have frequently choked Champions League games in the past and cannot be trusted in this tournament. Few teams can match up to PSG on paper, but something always seems to go wrong for them. While Mukiele is a good signing, he is just a piece of the puzzle and PSG will need more defensive help before they can truly compete in the Champions League.
