Kicking off a wide-open conference weekend in the NFL playoffs is Sunday’s NFC Championship Game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field. These are our best bets and prop picks for what promises to be a great contest.
49ers @ Eagles spread pick: Philadelphia -2.5
These teams are constructed in similar ways. Both squads possess a strong defense, a great offensive line, and a bunch of playmakers in key offensive areas. That being said, two things separate the Eagles from the Niners. One of them is the simple fact that the Eagles will play at home. They have been elite at Lincoln Financial Field all season and it’s a brutal place for opposing teams to play. The other difference between these teams comes down to their quarterbacks. While the Niners are 8-0 with Brock Purdy at the helm, he was the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and his lack of talent has been evident in some games. There have been fortuitous moments where Purdy wasn’t punished for bad throws, and we believe the Eagles will take advantage of those errant passes. On the other side of the field, Jalen Hurts has risen into the ranks of elite quarterbacks this year. Hurts is clearly better than Purdy and that should be the difference in this NFC Championship Game.
Philadelphia Eagles -2.5
Eagles anytime touchdown pick: Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts is firmly in the MVP conversation this season due to his dual-threat ability. While he has made vast improvements as a passer, his rushing ability is really what separates him from the competition. This season he has 14 rushing touchdowns in 18 games. Last weekend, in a blowout win, Hurts rushed the ball nine times and scored a touchdown. That happened in a game the Eagles didn’t need him to run, yet he still did. In this contest, Hurts’ legs should be more of a factor. The Niners have a great rush defense, but dealing with Hurts is a lofty proposition and we believe the Eagles will run him around the goal line as they have all season. Take Hurts to score an impressive 15th rushing TD and lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl.
Jalen Hurts anytime touchdown
49ers anytime touchdown pick: George Kittle
George Kittle is the tight end for the Niners and he is one of the hardest offensive players to stop in the league. While San Francisco possess a myriad of talented athletes, Kittle has separated himself from them as one of the most reliable redzone targets in the league. And Brock Purdy knows it. In the eight games with Purdy at the helm, Kittle has scored seven touchdowns and firmly established himself as his QB’s go-to guy. The Eagles have a great defense with elite pass defenders, but there is so much talent on this Niner’s offense that Kittle will have his moments. At +185 with Bovada, it’s worth a touchdown bet on one of the best tight ends in the league.
George Kittle anytime touchdown
Brock Purdy interceptions pick: Over 0.5
This is a short line but it is still a great bet. Purdy has thrown many interceptable passes in recent weeks and the defenders have simply dropped the ball. The Eagles won’t make those mistakes. Purdy has impressively only thrown four interceptions in his eight games, but the Eagles’ defense is a different monster. The Philly pass rush should be in Purdy’s face all game and that will affect his decision making. Take Purdy to throw a pick in a game where the Eagles should showcase their defensive talent and force mistakes from the young quarterback.
Brock Purdy over 0.5 interceptions
