Week Two of the NFL season is upon us, and unlike most weeks, NFL fans will be treated to two Monday Night Football matchups. Two divisional battles will take place this Monday, and we have picks for each game.
While neither of these NFC South rivals looked very good in Week One, the Saints did what they had to do and beat a solid Tennessee Titans team. The most impressive part of their win was their defensive performance, and now they get to play a rookie QB who struggled mightily in his NFL debut. Although we believe Bryce Young will be a great quarterback for Carolina in a few years, he still needs to adjust to the NFL, and his cast of supporting playmakers is dire right now. We expect the Saints to dominate defensively en route to their second consecutive win to open the season.
This line is set way too high. Olave is one of the best receivers in the NFL, and while the Panthers’ defense is their strong suit, they don’t have an elite cornerback to match up with Olave. Olave showed his ceiling in Week One when he torched the Titans by garnering eight catches for 112 yards. He is QB Derek Carr’s favorite option and will be looked at a lot in this contest. Take him to score at +175 with the top online sportsbooks and watch the sophomore receiver continue to put the league on notice.
These two teams came into this season with similar expectations but exited Week One with completely opposite thoughts. The Steelers were beaten down and lost by 23, while the Browns emerged with a 20-point victory. That being said, we will not overreact to that small sample size and opt for the home team in this contest. The Steelers are not as bad as they showed last week, and while the Browns could be a solid team, we will take the points in what should be a very close battle.
One takeaway from Week One that is telling is that the Steelers, like last year, do not have a good rush defense. Enter Nick Chubb, one of the best running backs in the league. The Steelers were killed last weekend on the ground and gave up 188 yards and a score. Chubb, an elite playmaker, should dominate in similar fashion. The veteran runner has scored 10 plus touchdowns in each season where he stayed healthy for 15 or more games, and he should get his first of the season in this Monday Night contest.
