Former Spain, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos has declared his intention to leave Sevilla before the start of next season.
A World Cup winner who began his youth career at Sevilla, Ramos rose to prominence with Spanish giants Real Madrid, where he lifted several trophies — including four Champions League crowns.
After a decorated 16-year tenure with the Blancos, Ramos played for Ligue 1 champions PSG for two years before returning to his boyhood club.
However, after spending only one season back at Sevilla, where he scored seven goals in 37 appearances, the central defender is poised to leave the Andalusian club for the second time in his career.
“Sergio Ramos has informed Sevilla FC that he will not continue next season in the Nervión entity after having fulfilled his dream of returning to the club where he trained as a player and achieved full international status,” Sevilla confirmed in official statement.
“Sevilla FC would like to thank Sergio Ramos for the commitment, leadership and maximum dedication that he has shown in this campaign, wishing him the best of luck in his next professional challenge.”
Ramos will make a public farewell on Tuesday during a press event at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, attended by club president José María del Nido Carrasco.
Various reports suggest that the 38-year-old is set for a move to Major League Soccer in the United States.
