Saturday, August 23 – 6:30pm CEST – Stadio Luigi Ferraris
History leans towards the hosts in this matchup. Recent Serie A meetings have skewed to the home side’s advantage, and the Marassi crowd can be worth a shove on opening day. Genoa finished last season with a sturdy home record (5-7-7), while Lecce’s away output was patchy (4-4-11). The even money with soccer sportsbooks is hard to ignore for Genoa to emerge victorious.
Saturday, August 23 – 6:30pm CEST – Mapei Stadium
Sassuolo return to Serie A with a lively Mapei welcome for Antonio Conte’s Napoli. This matchup in Reggio Emilia reliably brings goals — both teams to score has landed in eight of the past nine here. With Napoli’s usual fast start under Conte and Sassuolo’s home bounce, backing both sides to find the back of the net makes sense.
Saturday, August 23 – 8:45pm CEST – Stadio San Siro
Milan at San Siro on Matchday 1 is usually a strong proposition, and newly promoted Cremonese step into a tall order. Despite Rafael Leão likely to miss the opener after a Coppa Italia knock, which may trim Milan’s attacking ceiling a touch, their defensive structure should still carry them against a side adjusting to top-flight tempo.
Saturday, August 23 – 8:45pm CEST – Stadio Olimpico
This isn’t quite the mismatch it might have looked a few seasons back. Bologna have given Roma real headaches lately and come in unbeaten across their last five meetings with the Giallorossi — a run that underscores how competitive this Rossoblù group has become. The price on Bologna with top sports betting sites feels generous to keep the trend rolling.
Sunday, August 24 – 6:30pm CEST – Unipol Domus
Cagliari have turned Week 1 into a bit of a stalemate, especially in recent seasons (four draws in as many seasons), and this stylistic matchup lends itself to a cagey opener. Fiorentina will see plenty of the ball but may need time to rediscover rhythm away from home, while Cagliari’s compact defense at the Unipol Domus can drag early-season games into a grind.
Sunday, August 24 – 6:30pm CEST – Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia
Como’s energy at home should be a factor, and both of these teams have been more convincing going forward than in clean-sheet terms. Lazio under pressure tend to open games up, and Como’s willingness to attack in front of a buzzing crowd points to a few goals being scored.
Sunday, August 24 – 8:45pm CEST – Gewiss Stadium
The Gewiss is a tough introduction for newly promoted Pisa, who make their top-flight return after 34 years away. Atalanta have won each of their last seven Serie A openers and shape as genuine contenders under Ivan Jurić. Atalanta look too strong on paper and should prove too clinical for Pisa at home.
Sunday, August 24 – 8:45pm CEST – Allianz Stadium
New signing Jonathan David opened his Juventus account in pre-season with a highlight-reel overhead at Atalanta and looks primed to hit the ground running. With Juve likely to spend long spells in Parma’s half, early service into David makes first-goal honors a live play — a feat he achieved six times in Ligue 1 for Lille last season.
Monday, August 25 – 6:30pm CEST – Bluenergy Stadium
This fixture has been tight and low-scoring lately: the last three Serie A meetings produced 1-0, 0-0 and 1-0 scorelines, with ‘both teams to score’ staying off the board each time. On opening day, don’t be shocked if it’s attritional again, especially with both coaches prioritising structure before adventure.
Monday, August 25 – 8:45pm CEST – Stadio Giuseppe Meazza
Inter typically handle Torino and have dominated the recent head-to-head ledger, including a clean sweep across their meetings in the past year. Opening day at San Siro, with Inter’s front line already capable of quick separation, sets up nicely for a multi-goal home win, even if it takes patience to crack the visitors.
