Sinner dominates Zverev to win 2025 Australian Open final

Jannik Sinner - Aus Open Win

Jannik Sinner captured his third Grand Slam title in dominant fashion on Sunday night in Melbourne, defeating Alexander Zverev in straight sets to win the Australian Open.

The world No.1 delivered a commanding performance, dispatching the No.2 seed 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3 in two hours and 42 minutes on Rod Laver Arena without facing a single break point.

This victory places Sinner in elite company, as he becomes only the third player in tennis history to win a major final without allowing his opponent a single break point opportunity.

He also set a historic record by winning 10 consecutive matches in straight sets against top-10 opponents, cementing his status as the dominant force in men’s tennis.

Sinner’s serving was key to his success, landing 60% of his first serves and winning 84% of points behind them.

From the baseline, he systematically dismantled Zverev, staying patient during extended rallies and exploiting errors or passive shots from the German.

The stats told the story: Sinner tallied 32 winners to Zverev’s 25 and committed just 27 unforced errors compared to Zverev’s 45.

“It was an incredible performance from my side,” Sinner said after the match.

“I started serving well and found my rhythm quickly. It was high-quality tennis throughout. The second set got tight in the tiebreak, but I managed to hold my nerve. I’m beyond happy with this run here in Australia.”

For Zverev, the loss marked his third defeat in a Grand Slam final. He reflected on the match candidly, acknowledging Sinner’s superiority in almost every aspect of the game.

“Jannik is just better than me right now, plain and simple,” Zverev said.

“I might serve better, but everything else—forehand, backhand, movement, returns, volleys—he does it all better. He completely outplayed me today, and he deserved the win. He’s the best player on hard courts right now, no question.”

Sinner’s Australian Open triumph was widely anticipated by tennis analysts and betting markets.

The 23-year-old entered the tournament as the favorite, with odds of +140.

As the tournament progressed, his dominance on the court saw those odds shorten to -303.03 heading into Sunday’s final with the top online betting sites.

Zverev, on the other hand, began the tournament as a long shot at +1000 to win his first Australian Open.

By the time he reached the final, his odds had improved to +240, though he remained the underdog against the world No.1.

Sinner’s victory solidifies his place as the current king of hard-court tennis and adds another milestone to a career that continues to soar.
