No one ever accused Rob Gronkowski of not having a hard head.

The New England tight end is the most important part of their offense behind QB Tom Brady, but he took his second concussion of the year in their game against Jacksonville, and whether he’ll be able to even play in Super Bowl LII isn’t completely certain.

This is affecting lines like you might imagine.

Since he’s under concussion protocol, he wouldn’t have been able to play if Super Bowl LII was played on January 28. However, with the extra week of rest, he could just make it. The lines have changed a bit as a result.

As you can see, online bookmakers have wound out the Patriots now. The spread virtually everywhere has also dropped to 4.5, and the over/under to 47.5, indicating the bookies expect the Pats to score less on average due to Gronkowski’s decreased chances of playing in the game.

The best Super Bowl LII odds available right now

Poor Rob has come out and said that he expects to be in the game, but he’d say that either way, so it doesn’t really tell us anything at this point. He has been seen already doing some very light drilling, but again, that doesn’t tell us anything either.

So from here, the sportsbooks are trying to guess the best they can. If you plan on betting on the Patriots, this could be your time to get the best odds available. If they announce that Gronkowski is definitely going to play, then the odds are going to kick back up to where they were previously (and possibly higher).

As it stands right now, Bovada has the best line for the Patriots that we’ve seen since the playoffs at -175. It most certainly won’t get any lower than that even if Rob can’t play, because that probably won’t be announced until right before the game.

If you still want to bet on the Eagles, then +175 with BETMGM is the best you’re going to get. This is a little worse than this time a week ago, but if you think that Gronkowski is going to suit up, then you may want to wait for the announcement since it’s unlikely the line is going to get worse for the Eagles until then.

Tom Brady’s “pissant” daughter

In the “odd but possibly related” category, Tom Brady had it out with a radio host who called his daughter “an annoying little pissant.” He’s appeared on WEEI weekly for quite a while on the Kirk and Callahan Show, and it came up that another host Alex Reimer had made the comment about Brady’s daughter’s appearance in a recent documentary called “Tom vs. Time.”

No lines really moved as a result of this encounter, so it doesn’t seem that bookies (or anyone else for that matter) think it’s going to deflate his balls affect him mentally going into Super Bowl LII. We’re sure that he’s heard worse – like that he cheated in a previous Super Bowl, for example.
