Defending champion Iga Swiatek looks unstoppable at the 2025 Indian Wells Open, powering past Dayana Yastremska in just over an hour on Sunday for her second straight 6-0, 6-2 victory in California.

Swiatek entered the tournament as the second favorite with top tennis betting sites, but after dropping just four games across her first two matches, her odds have now shortened to level with Aryna Sabalenka as co-favorite for the WTA 1000 title.

With confidence running high, the world No. 1 was pleased with her performance.

“I was pretty confident from the beginning,” she said after the win.

“I just kept doing my thing, and I’m happy that I could close it in such a confident way. I know that I’m in a good place and I’m going the right way. So I feel pretty pumped up.”

The slow, high-bouncing courts in Indian Wells play perfectly into Swiatek’s heavy topspin game, and her record at the tournament reflects that dominance.

She now boasts a 20-2 career mark at the event, with 17 of those wins coming in straight sets.

“My game, for sure, fits the surface here,” she said.

“I feel like it makes it more visible, you know, the topspin that I play.”

However, Swiatek insists that her success in Indian Wells isn’t just about the playing conditions.

“It’s never only about the surface,” she said. “For sure the surface helps, but it’s not the only thing. You still need to do the job.

“I’ve always been pretty focused here and also accepting the mistakes that are going to happen in this dry air, you know.

“I always had time before to do solid work. It wasn’t like I was rushed anywhere. Sometimes in these one-week tournaments, there is no time to practice, for example. But here I always have that.

“I know I just feel comfortable, and I found my rhythm also off the court to recover well. I guess it’s a mix—just being happy here and having a good life.”

Swiatek now turns her attention to a round of 16 clash with 15th seed Karolina Muchova on Tuesday.

She enters as a heavy -566 favorite at with the top sportsbooks to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
