The current hearing ongoing against Entertainment Group’s Casino in Sydney has been extended to 31st August, with many witnesses expected to appear.
Adam Bell SC, who is heading the review, was expected to submit his findings on 30 June but has long asked for an extension. This has now been approved by New South Wales Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority (ILGA).
In a statement released by, New South Wales, Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA). Bell’s request for a time extension will allow him “carry out more detailed lines of investigation to completely discharge his responsibility stated in the Terms of Reference.”
These “Terms of Reference” detail the areas of Bell’s review, which examine the Star’s eligibility to run its casino business in Sydney, also look at to what level the brand has complied with its functions under the Casino Control Act 1992 and Casino Control Regulation 2019.
Other areas of the review under investigation include “the presence and detection of illicit and unwanted business and the kind of people in the casino” and “the management and modus Oparandi of The Star’s bank accounts.”
The Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) Chairperson Philip Crawford stated: “The regulating body is fully backing Mr. Bell examining more witnesses and paying attention to several major issues”
This is coming since the public started on 17th March. Testimonies that were heard at the cause of the hearings majorly contributed to the resignation of The Star Entertainment Group CEO and Managing Director Matt Bekier.
Among the notable witnesses so far is the former Chief Risk Officer Paul McWilliams, who testify that Bekier was furious at the report presented by the international audit firm KPMG.
The Star Group has stated that they will continue to cooperate with the review.
