Spurs vs Blues Betting Preview

Tottenham Hotspur have the home ground advantage against Chelsea this Sunday in a feisty London derby that is among the most anticipated soccer betting encounters in Match Week 18 of the 2019/20 English Premier League. The match will see Jose Mourinho go toe-to-toe with his former players at Chelsea, as the Portuguese manager takes on his second ex-club in the EPL this season.

Spurs strengthened their chances of squeezing back into the top four last Sunday after forcing an injury time win against a stubborn Wolverhampton Wanderers side to register a 2-1 win. The last gasp victory enabled Jose Mourinho’s side to clock 26 points, just three points behind Chelsea in fourth.

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side lost considerable ground in their chase for a top four finish, as the Blues suffered a disheartening 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth last weekend in the EPL. That loss, their sixth of the season; saw the Blues remain rooted on 29 points. Tottenham took full advantage of to narrow their gap with their London rivals to three points ahead of this weekend’s derby.

Hailed as one of the most impressive young home grown sides in Europe, Chelsea hasn’t been the same since losing to Manchester City towards the end of November, as the Blues have since suffered defeats in three of their last four English premier League games.

Spurs on the other hand have rediscovered their sharpness under Jose Mourinho since his appointment late last month, climbing all the way from the bottom half of the league ladder to fifth.

Tottenham Hotspur team news

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is set to continue will his prolonged spell on the sidelines after undergoing elbow surgery, with no specific return date booked for the Tottenham skipper.

Ben Davies too has been ruled out of the encounter due to an ankle injury suffered last month during the win over West Ham United. Erik Lamela and Tanguy Ndombele will also have no part to play in the derby due to hamstring and groin injuries respectively.

Chelsea team news

Academy graduate Fikayo Tomori could be up for selection this weekend having recovered from a hip injury, but Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been ruled out for the rest of the year due to an achilles injury.

Olivier Giroud has missed the last two games due to a recent ankle injury. It’s however unlikely that the French veteran will be risked for the remainder for the year even upon recovering, given that the 33-year old is set to leave the club in the January transfer window.

Ross Barkley will also miss the derby due to a troublesome ankle problem.

Harry Kane EPL Betting Odds & Specials

Harry Kane is Tottenham Hotspur’s leading goal scorer having found the back of the net 15 times in all competitions this season. His season has been marred with inconsistencies which have left him a long way behind Jamie Vardy who currently leads the race for the Golden Boot; but Kane has scored two goals in his last two EPL games, positioning him strongly against a vulnerable Chelsea side.

Tottenham vs Chelsea Betting Tips

Frank Lampard will be pitting his wits against his former manager when Chelsea makes the cross-city trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend. Although Lampard already knows what it feels like to defeat his former boss, having beaten the Portuguese when Derby County knocked Manchester United out of EFL Cup in the third round last season; his Chelsea fledglings are out of sorts at the moment—managing just one win in their last five league games.

The well rounded Spurs should be able to register a win, one that will see them move to fourth on the table on goal difference.
