Try scoring odds and free tips for the 2016 NRL Grand Final

THE Melbourne Storm and Cronulla Sharks will do battle on the NRL’s biggest stage this Sunday, with history and rugby immortality on the line.

The game should be a great match-up of the two best teams this season and when it features the likes of Cooper Cronk, Cameron Smith, Ben Barba and Paul Gallen, you know it’s going to be a thriller.

Punters love betting on the grand final as it’s the last chance to get some NRL action this season and what better way to have fun than by having a first try-scorer bet? Punters make big money in the tryscoring markets and CrownBet is making it easier this Sunday.

CrownBet is giving up to $50 in bonus bets if your selection does not score the first try, but scores a try at any time during the game.

Melbourne Storm first try scorer odds and tips

The Melbourne Storm has a wealth of tryscoring options, but none are more prominent than the two Fijian wingers.

Suliasi Vanivalu has had an incredible rookie season. The slick winger has played 20 games and scored 23 tries, making him one of the most popular try-scoring picks all season.

Vanivalu does his fair share of work with 18 line breaks and a total of 209 runs, which is more than prop Jordan McLean. Vanivalu is a threat in the air as well, so look for either Cooper Cronk or Cameron Smith to put up some well-directed kicks in his direction.

Vanivalu is the hot favourite at $7.50 with Sportsbet to score first and punters should at least get their money back and we’re confident Vanivalu will cross the line at some stage during the final.

Fellow Fijian flyer Marika Koroibete has scored 12 tries and remains on the second line of betting at Sportsbet. He is currently $10 to score first which is a solid first tryscorer option.

Melbourne Storm first try-scorer market:

1. Cameron Munster – $18
2. Suliasi Vunivalu – $7.50
3. Will Chambers – $14
4. Cheyse Blair – $17
5. Marika Koroibete – $10
6. Blake Green – $26
7. Cooper Cronk – $18
8. Jesse Bromwich – $34
9. Cameron Smith – $41
10. Jordan McLean – $51
11. Kevin Proctor – $23
12. Tohu Harris – $26
13. Dale Finucane – $41
14. Ken Bromwich – $26
15. Tim Glasby – $51
16. Christian Welch – $41
17. Ben Hampton – $23

Cooper Cronk showed in the semi-final against the Raiders that he’s committed to scoring tries. Cronk was aggressive the entire 80 minutes and he has taken another step up in his attacking play.

Not only does Cronk lead the team with 23 try assists, but the star halfback playing his 301st game on Sunday has scored 12 tries of his own. Cronk has underrated speed and the Storm’s chances could hinge on his ability to get to the line.

$18 is a good first try-scorer price at CrownBet and the $3.75 to score at any time will likely be running through many multi-bets this weekend.

We can’t rule out Cheyse Blair who has done well in limited games this season. The rangy centre has scored nine tries from 16 games which is a good rate and given that he has committed only four errors this season, he’s a safe pick in the tryscoring ranks.

$17 is a touch short in the first tryscorer market, but $3.50 at Sportsbet is a good price to score at any time.

Cronulla Sharks first try scorer market and tips

The Cronulla Sharks are a well-balanced outfit in the try-scoring ranks, but they still has plenty of superstar talent.

Valentine Holmes is on the second line of betting to score first at $9.50 after the winger scored 19 tries throughout the season so far. Holmes might lead the team in errors with 25 and he has come up with some clangers when a try looked certain, but he has rectified the problem and looks a major threat.

Ben Barba has been a popular pick for fantasy players this week and it’s not hard to see why. The star fullback has scored 15 tries this season and they usually come in dramatic fashion.

With 18 try assists, he’s a great team player, but Ben Barba punters should reward punters with a try at odds of $2.63 this Sunday.

Cronulla Sharks first try-scorer odds:

1. Ben Barba – $12
2. Sosaia Feki – $11
3. Jack Bird – $17
4. Ricky Leutele – $18
5. Valentine Holmes – $9.50
6. James Maloney – $23
7. Chad Townsend – $26
8. Andrew Fifita – $26
9. Michael Ennis – $34
10. Matt Prior – $41
11. Luke Lewis – $20
12. Wade Graham – $26
13. Paul Gallen – $41
14. Gerard Beale – $21
15. Chris Heighington – $51
16. Sam Tagataese – $51
17. Jayson Bukuya – $46

Sosaia Feki will go up against the likes of Koroibete and Vunivalu, but he can more than hold his own on the wing.

Feki brings a fair amount of strength to the position and having scored 14 tries this season, he looks ready to have a strong grand final. This has been a breakout season for Feki who is going from strength-to-strength and the $11 at CrownBet for the first tryscorer option is good enough.

Having not mentioned any of the Sharks forward pack would be a crime and there’s one player who could crash through the defense.

Andrew Fifita has scored only two tries this season, but he bulldozes through defenses and he could be used to test the Melbourne fringe defense. He has been well respected in the market at $26 with Sportsbet which could blow the bookmakers away.

To score a try – player double market

CrownBet has opened a market where punters can bet on opposing numbers to both score a try. For example, if both the fullback for the Storm and the Sharks score a try, CrownBet will give odds of $9.

Both number 1’s to score a try – $9
Both number 2’s to score a try – $4.25 at CrownBet
Both number 3’s to score a try – $9.50
Both number 4’s to score a try – $11
Both number 5’s to score a try – $4.75
Both number 6’s to score a try – $21
Both number 7’s to score a try – $17
Both number 8’s to score a try – $34
Both number 9’s to score a try – $61
Both number 10’s to score a try – $81
Both number 11’s to score a try – $15
Both number 12’s to score a try – $26
Both number 13’s to score a try – $51

$9 for both Cameron Munster and Ben Barba to score a try is good value. Cameron Munster has scored only four tries this season, but he could have scored more if he wasn’t so unselfish.

Munster has great a capability to score a try and opposing fullback Ben Barba has a knack to find the try line, so take the $9 at CrownBet for both number 1’s to score a try.

The well-favoured option is both number 2’s to score a try at $4.25. This includes Suliasi Vunivalu who is a try-scoring machine and also Sosaia Feki who we think is a great chance to score.

We suggest taking this option as your best player double market option.
