What is an NBA money line bet?

The money line is a different way of producing and showing odds or returns on a bet. The money line shows you either how much money you would have to bet on a team to make a $100 profit or how much money you can make from a simple $100 bet.

The following is an example of an NBA money line bet:

Golden State Warriors – 450
New York Knicks + 600

This money line shows the Golden State Warriors are firm favorites to win the game over the New York Knicks. In fact, you would have to bet $450 to make a $100 profit on the Warriors, giving you $550 after a winning bet. However, a simple $100 bet on the Knicks would yield a $600 profit, leaving you to walk away with $700 in total.

Firstly, understanding how money lines work is a great start. There is no point going in to a money line bet and not quite understanding how they work. You could accidentally place a bet on the underdog instead of the favourite you were intending to have a punt on.
