Thursday, October 11 – 7:45p.m Local time – Millennium Stadium, Wales, United Kingdom
Wales is set to welcome the Spanish national football team to the Millennial Stadium on Thursday evening in what will be its only friendly match during October’s edition of the FIFA international break.
The Dragons will be hoping to return back to winning ways following a 2-0 defeat away to Denmark in September.
The beating was inspired by Christian Eriksen who was part of an entourage of senior Danish players making their way back into the first team having boycotted the 3-0 friendly defeat to Slovakia as a result of a commercial rights dispute; the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder scoring a goal apiece in each half.
The opening goal came in the 32nd minute when right-back Henrik Dalsgaard found space just inside the area with a well weighted pass; one that Eriksen controlled before placing a low finish that went in off the far post.
The young, Welsh side appeared to toil for greater margins of the encounter and was soon precariously dancing on the edge of a cliff when Ethan Ampadu gave away a penalty, having handled a cross from Viktor Fischer in the 62nd minute.
There was little by way of doubt when Eriksen stepped up to take the spot kick, as the 26-year old sent goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey the wrong way to not only double the advantage for the hosts, but also imminently put the result beyond reach for Ryan Giggs’s side.

Defeat in their opening match of the newly set up UEFA Nations League was by all accounts a reality check for Ryan Giggs, as the former Manchester United winger – who also served as assistant manager at the club under Louis van Gaal – had ushered himself into management with the 4-1 obliteration of the Republic of Ireland in his first competitive match in charge.
Spain on the other hand launched their Nations League campaign with a hard fought 2-1 win over England in Wembley at the beginning of last month.
Marcus Rashford gave the Three Lions a dream start with a sumptuous strike after connecting with Luke Shaw’s pass, but La Furia Roja struck back almost immediately thanks to a low finish by Saul Niguez. Rodrigo Moreno however completed Spain’s comeback in the 32nd minute with an instinctive, close range finish from a free kick after England were caught sleeping at the back.
Gareth Southgate’s side could have salvaged a point from the encounter after Danny Welbeck scored what seemed like an equalizer in stoppage time, but the goal was ruled out by Dutch referee Danny Makkelie for a foul on David de Gea. As it were, the match ended with an England defeat in their first match since the 2018 FIFA World Cup in which they reached the semifinals.
Ryan Giggs looks to be without Gareth Bale who missed Monday’s training session with the national team; this coming after the winger sustained a recurring groin injury during the last ten minutes of Real Madrid’s 1-0 defeat away to Alaves over the weekend.
Luis Enrique, in stark contrast, has a catalogue of injuries to contend with, as Isco, Dani Carvajal, Sergi Roberto and Diego Costa have all been ruled out with various injuries.
Spain vs. Wales betting predictions
Spain had a torrid campaign in Russia as they were knocked out of the tournament by the hosts in the Round of 16, but La Furia Roja seem to have found their footing under Luis Enrique, with a 2-1 win over England and a 6-0 demolition of World Cup finalists Croatia a month ago.
In spite of their injury woes, Spain’s oversupply of world class players look poised to undermine Ryan Giggs’s new job with a resounding defeat in Cardiff.
